Carlisle United have confirmed the signing of Altrincham striker Regan Linney for an undisclosed fee, as reported on the club’s official website.
Linney netted 25 goals in all competitions as Alty finished just short of the National League playoffs.
Cumbrians Snap Up Prolific Marksman
Linney began his career at Bamber Bridge before sealing a move to FC United of Manchester and scoring 40 goals in 97 appearances.
That form saw Altrincham take the striker into the National League where his goalscoring showed no signs of slowing down. He leaves the club after two and a half years, 93 appearances and 44 goals.
This season, the 28-year-old scored 23 league goals and 25 in all competitions. He was the division’s second-highest behind York City’s Ollie Pearce.
Hughes Excited By Linney Capture
Carlisle boss Mark Hughes spoke of his delight after confirming the signing of Linney, the club’s first of a vital transfer window as they look to regain their Football League status.
“We’re delighted Regan has joined us. We’re really impressed with him as a player, he obviously had a big season last year and scored a lot of goals.”
Hughes is pleased with the options that Linney brings to his squad and believes the striker is joining at the right time.
“We like the way he goes about his business, he’s got flexibility which is important and he can play down the middle or from the left, and he scored a lot of goals from that position last season.”
