Leeds United Receive Setback For Permanent Signing

Leeds United, on the back of a centurion season as Championship winners, understandably set their sights on acquiring one of their star loan players at Elland Road permanently. A setback in the chase for Manor Solomon has now appeared.

Premier League money once again has given Daniel Farke the chance to elevate his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Due to his importance for Leeds in their championship-winning season, Solomon’s permanence is notably an important target for the German.

Solomon The Standout

Last season the 25-year-old scored the 91st-minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle to cap off an exceptionally impressive season in West Yorkshire. A scintillating final run of form saw the Tottenham Hotspur loanee provide five assists while scoring three in the last six games.

The gulf in quality, as a left winger in the Championship, had been evident since Solomon’s first inclusion for Leeds. The former Shakhtar Donetsk star enjoyed a solidified place in the first team set-up after an inconsistent start very early in the season. Since a man of the match performance against Swansea City – with two goals in a 3-4 showcase victory – Solomon has offered 20 goal contributions in domestic competitions for the Whites.

Issues On Spurs’ End

Following Tottenham’s revived season – their UEFA Europa League triumph despite finishing one place above the league’s relegation zone – an inclusion in next campaign’s UEFA Champions League has hung Leeds’ situation in the balance. Two key issues are supposedly halting any negotiations regarding Solomon, as Ange Postecoglu’s future remains uncertain alongside the necessity to keep a large squad ahead of the inevitable European mid-week fixtures.

According to The Daily Mail, Spurs’ Daniel Levy has informed that the fate of Postecoglu will have a knock-on effect with Solomon’s signature. With the fee still expected to be £20 million, or around that ball park, Leeds will be hoping for the Australian manager to stick around in North London.

Other Areas Of Improvement

If the fee cannot be settled or the move is blocked by Levy, Leeds will be disappointed in not retaining their star winger. However, talks of potential upgrades have been starting in other areas of their squad.

Supposedly, Gustavo Hamer, Jack Rudoni and Emiliano Buendia are all potential targets for the newly-promoted club. All three have been heavily linked to Leeds, with the former and latter having a decent amount of Premier League experience. This would possibly be a direct replacement for Leeds’ current attacking midfielder, Brendan Aaronson, who would likely drop to the bench for one of the incomings.

Writer’s View

Solomon simply must continue to be a priority for Leeds. Despite £20 million appearing as a lot of money to gamble on one signing, as a new side in the Premier League, the 25-year-old has a remarkable potential upside with a pre-set role in a familiar set-up. Farke clearly admires the winger and will be crossing his fingers that Postecoglu remains at the Spurs post.

22 goal contributions, with man of the match performances in games without scoresheet involvements, appears to be the perfect signing for a Premier League rejuvenation. This signing would absolutely be a step in the right direction.
