First Prediction For Stockport County vs Leyton Orient: Match Result – Stockport County – 17/20
A draw in the first leg was perhaps unsurprising when considering the club’s Play-Off records, season finishes and recent form. Prior to this encounter, Leyton Orient had won six straight games to finish inside the top six, enjoying an excellent second half of the campaign to shake off fears of relegation back in October. Stockport were almost as perfect at the end of the regular season, winning seven of their remaining eight encounters. But with Orient unbeaten in their past five home Play-Off games, and the Hatters winless in six away encounters in this competition, an away win always looked unlikely. But ahead of Wednesday’s second leg, County had the third-best home record in the regular season, going ten games unbeaten. Orient are fourth in the away table, winning twelve times away from East London, but they may fall agonisingly short this week.
Second Prediction For Stockport County vs Leyton Orient: Over 3.5 Goals – 53/25
Given that this outcome occurred in the first leg, when the pressure is ramped up and stakes are even higher in the second instalment of this fixture, the goals should be flowing. Only Birmingham City scored more than County’s 42 home goals this term, at a rate of just under two goals per game. While they just managed to concede fewer than once per game on average, their defensive record was the worst on home soil in the top seven. Likewise, Orient were the second highest scorers on their travels with 39. A blockbuster second leg should await spectators in Cheshire this week.
Third Prediction For Stockport County vs Leyton Orient: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 33/50
This should be a new certainty, all things considered. In Stockport’s last six games, both teams have been on the scoresheet, with the Hatters themselves last failing to net at Wrexham in March. Orient kept out Wycombe Wanderers in their final April fixture, which was the only time in their last seven fixtures that both sides didn’t score. Expect goals at either end on Wednesday evening, and in plentiful supply too.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Stockport County and Leyton Orient played out a thrilling yet controversial draw in the first leg at Brisbane Road on Saturday lunchtime. While these first encounters are typically tight affairs, the four goals in East London was the highest tally from the six EFL Play-Off games to date this campaign. After half an hour, Orient took the lead, to the bewilderment of most watching in East London. Omar Beckles flicked the ball to Charlie Kelman inside the box, with the League One top goalscorer grabbing his 22nd third-tier goal of the season from an evidently offside position. County, spurred on by the opener, had the better of the opening period and continued their dominance after the interval. Owen Moxon struck the goalframe as the Hatters pushed for a leveller, which came from the penalty spot following Rarmani-Edmonds-Green’s handball inside the box. Ollie Norwood cooly dispatched from twelve yards, and the former Sheffield United captain turned provider five minutes later as the visitors turned the game around. Fraser Horsfall powered in the header from inside the six-yard box. Both sides had good shouts for a penalty waved away by Ben Speedie, before the O’s were gifted the chance to level the tie with minutes remaining. Ollie O’Neil’s shot hit Horsfall’s arm, and Kelman converted the penalty with two minutes remaining. Corey Addai had to be alert to deny Orient an unlikely victory, saving Jamie Donley’s effort late on.
Looking back to the regular season, Stockport ended the year in great fashion as they kept their faint automatic promotion ambitions alive until the penultimate weekend of the campaign. Last defeated by the side who beat them to second spot, Wrexham, back in March, the Hatters responded with a third March victory by edging past Burton Albion. That started a four-game winning streak, which saw Dave Challinor’s outfit defeat Stevenage and Exeter City without conceding, before easing past Rotherham United. Though the winning run came to an end at Peterborough United, Jack Diamond all but sealed a Play-Off place when he struck a stoppage-time equaliser at the Weston Homes Stadium. That place was confirmed on Easter Monday as the Hatters defeated Huddersfield Town, again requiring a late goal, as the scorers from Saturday’s first leg were also on target against the Terriers. While County remained fifth with that result, they rose two places to third after overcoming their final Edgeley Park assignment of the regular season against Lincoln City, turning around a two-goal deficit. But after Wrexham eased past Charlton Athletic, the Red Dragons secured a third successive promotion. For Stockport, they are hoping for consecutive promotions, ending the campaign with another comeback victory over Wycombe Wanderers to secure third place.
Orient also entered the end-of-season competition in fine form, recording six successive wins to seal a top-six place on the final day. It’s been a rollercoaster season for Richie Wellens’ side, as they sat only one place above the bottom four in October, after picking up just eight points from their opening eleven games. The tide turned at the end of 2024, keeping a clean sheet in all seven games in December. Twelve wins from fifteen looked to have Orient as a certainty for the Play-Offs, but they hit poor form at a bad time, losing five on the bounce to fall seven points adrift of sixth position. And yet, despite two disappointing results to start April, the O’s timed their return to winning ways to perfection. Six victories in their final six games of the regular season were enough to take the final Play-Off place on goal difference. Successes over Mansfield Town and Crawley Town were quickly followed by wins over Barnsley, Cambridge United & Wycombe Wanderers, before a final day hammering of Huddersfield Town.
Whether one of these sides takes the final step and are victorious at Wembley, doing so would certainly shake up the Championship. Second-tier football has alluded the Hatters since the beginning of the century, while Orient haven’t played at that level since 1982. The away side have the edge over history with seven more wins than Stockport, but both teams were successful in the regular season encounters.
