First Prediction For Derby County vs Stoke City – Derby County To Win – 17/20
The Championship relegation battle comes down to the final day, with both Stoke and Derby still involved in the conversation. The Rams did ease their fears somewhat on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Hull City. They moved up to 19th as a result, one point behind Stoke in 18th. Still, John Eustace’s side remain just a single point above the bottom three. Their recent form must be taken into account here though. They’ve lost just two of their last 10 and haven’t tasted defeat at Pride Park since February.
Things can change very quickly in football, as Mark Robins has discovered in the past couple of weeks A 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Good Friday extended their unbeaten run to five games and appeared to have dragged them out of trouble. The last thing the Potters needed then was back-to-back games against two of the top three. They were dreadful during a 6-0 hammering at Leeds United, although it was an improved showing last Friday in a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield United. Derby are in-form though and will be tough to beat.
Second Prediction For Derby County vs Stoke City – Both Teams To Score – 9/10
With so much riding on this game, expect both teams to go for it. Stoke will be safe with a point, but that isn’t the same for Derby. The Potters are unlikely to sit back and hope for a 0-0 and will be looking to banish the memories of their last two games. Prior to that, they did score in five successive games. Their defence is clearly a week point, with eight goals shipped against Leeds and Sheffield United.
Derby kept a clean sheet on Saturday, their second in five games. Perhaps even more impressive was their 0-0 draw against promoted Burnley. However, both teams scored when the pair met earlier this season, which Stoke won 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium. That was the third successive meeting which has finished by that scoreline, with Derby winning the other two in 2021.
Third Prediction For Derby County vs Stoke City – Over 2.5 Goals – 5/4
Recent stats show why the odds for this are so long, especially when taking into account that Derby and Stoke have only been involved in games with three games or more 40% and 38% of the time this season. However, the last three meetings between the two have all gone over this market.
There’s also the fact that Derby simply must score, whereas defeat for Stoke would leave them in serious trouble. This is now effectively a cup final for both teams and they are left with no choice but to go for it. The Rams have also been strong at home in recent months, with only Luton Town leaving Pride Park with three points in their last five.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Derby’s form between late December and early March saw them fall into the relegation places, when they picked up just two points in 12 games. This saw John Eustace brought in to replace Paul Warne, which has sparked a dramatic upturn in results. They’ve now recorded just two defeats in their last 10, winning their last two. The beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 at The Hawthorns on Easter Monday and followed that with an excellent 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Hull City, a result which saw the Tigers drop into the bottom three. Despite their excellent recent results, a 1-0 defeat against Luton Town on Good Friday has kept them in the relegation conversation.
Stoke have also flirted with the drop into League One for the majority of the campaign. Mark Robins would have been confident that he had done enough to secure safety with a five game unbeaten run which started on March 29th with a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers. The Potters followed that with draws against Preston North End (1-1) and Luton (1-1) before beating Cardiff City (1-0) and Sheffield Wednesday (2-0). However, they were embarrassed during a 6-0 defeat against Leeds United, although their were major signs of improvement when they fell to a 2-0 loss against Sheffield United last Friday.
Stoke won the reverse fixture earlier this season in November, picking up a 2-1 victory at the bet365 Stadium. With Derby spending time in League One recently, that was their first meeting in three years. Overall, it is the Rams that have had the better of the Staffordshire-based outfit over the years. They have won 55 of the previous 140 clashes, with Stoke winning 44 and 41 ending in a draw.
