1st Prediction For Peterborough United vs Bolton Wanderers: Peterborough United to win 13/10

After a good start to life under Steven Schumacher, Bolton Wanderers have performed poorly in recent weeks, meaning it could be fruitful to predict Peterborough United to win on Saturday despite them sitting nine places below Bolton in the league table. The Wanderers have won just one of their last five league games, putting them in 21st place in the form table. This win was not particularly impressive either. It came against Bristol Rovers, who are in free fall having lost seven of their last eight games. The Posh’s record is not much better, as they have only picked up five points in their last five league games, though they did secure an impressive two-nil victory over this season’s League One winners, Birmingham City, in the Vertu Trophy final just under a fortnight ago.

2nd Prediction For Peterborough United vs Bolton Wanderers: Both teams to score: yes 11/25

Saturday’s game sees two teams with prolific attacks and leaky defences face each other, meaning that predicting both teams to score should be relatively safe. Darren Ferguson’s men have scored 64 goals this campaign, more than second-placed Wrexham, and are one of the most dangerous attacking outfits in the league. The Posh have created the fourth-highest xG and average the sixth-most shots on target per match of any side in the third tier. However, they do have major problems defensively, keeping just six clean sheets all season, the third-worst record in the league. They have also conceded 1.7 goals per game on average, only Crawley Town have conceded more goals per game than the Posh. Bolton Wanderers’ attack is even better than Peterborough’s. They have scored 1.5 goals per game on average to give them the sixth-best attack in the third tier. Their underlying attacking numbers are also excellent as they have created the sixth-highest xG and the fifth-most big chances in League One. But, they have only kept nine clean sheets this term, the 17th-highest in the league, and they have conceded 68 goals in total, more than 20th-placed Burton Albion.

3rd Prediction For Peterborough United vs Bolton Wanderers: Kwame Poku to score at any time 43/25

Peterborough United’s policy of investing in young players means that, in any given season, their squad possesses an attacker who is too good for the league they are in. This season, that player has been Kwame Poku and it could be worthwhile predicting the 23-year-old to find the back of the net again on Saturday. Despite missing over three months of the season due to injury, Poku has outscored Peterborough’s other talented attackers, like Malik Mothersille and Ricky Jade-Jones, in the League. The former Colchester United man has found the back of the net 12 times in just 26 league appearances, including once in his last five games, and he needs just one more goal to make this season the most prolific of his senior career. What makes his goalscoring record even more impressive is that these 12 league goals have come from just 5.83 xG, meaning his good finishing has secured him more than twice as many goals as he statistically should have.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

It has been a disappointing season for Peterborough United, who have fallen well short of their preseason ambition to be in the playoff race and currently find themselves in 17th place in League One. The Posh have picked up just 50 points from their 43 games and have only won once in their last five league meetings, meaning they are also in 17th in the form table. Darren Ferguson’s men are well clear of the relegation zone, but they will be looking for victories in their last three matches so that they can secure a top-half finish, else this season will be the club’s worst since before 2010.

Bolton Wanderers were another side who were tipped to be in the promotion mix ahead of the season. However, Ian Evatt struggled to get his team to perform at the highest level and Steven Schumacher has also struggled to extract results in recent weeks. The Wanderers occupy eighth place, but have no realistic chance of getting into the playoffs after a terrible run which has seen them lose each of their last four league games. Nevertheless, the Bolton players will be playing for their futures as Schumacher will be deciding who he wants to move on in his first summer transfer window in charge of the club.

Schumacher will be happy to know that Bolton are unbeaten in each of their last seven games against Peterborough. In the last match between the two teams, it took a 99th-minute goal from Klaidi Lolos to secure victory for the Wanderers despite them creating over three xG.
