Our 3 predictions for Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic

  • 1st prediction: Wrexham to win or draw
  • 2nd prediction: Over 2.5 goals in the game
  • 3rd prediction: Both teams to score

1st prediction for Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic: Wrexham to win or draw – 1/4

EFL games simply do not get bigger than this one. Wrexham know that if Wycombe drop points at Leyton Orient, a win would confirm promotion to the Championship; an historic third consecutive promotion. Even if Wycombe do win, a Wrexham victory here would keep matters firmly in their hands with a two point gap, meaning bettering their rivals results on the final day would promote them. They have all the momentum after Wycombe’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of this weekend’s opponents, and with a home crowd, North Wales will be rocking to try and get them over the line. Charlton come into this one knowing a win is needed to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive, and their victory over Wycombe shows they are difficult opponents. Ultimately, it will be a tough task for them to replicate for a second week in a row, and with what’s on the line for Wrexham, they’ve got to be favourites

2nd prediction for Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 11/10

This should be an entertaining game with plenty of goals. Wrexham will want to put on a show for their last home game and will want to get potentially promoted in style, while Charlton are great going forward. They’ll have plenty of confidence from their 4-0 defeat of a good Wycombe side and will feel as though they can do the same against Wrexham. Wrexham are also in good form going forward, having scored in seven of their last eight during a good spell. Both sides have talented attackers, and if they’re on form goals are guaranteed. With the stakes being so high in this game and the players involved, it should be a cracker.

3rd prediction for Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic: Both teams to score – 4/5

This is a similar prediction to the previous one. Both sides have plenty at stake so need to attack. Charlton know only a positive result will keep their automatic promotion push going, and they’ll have to create plenty to breach a tough Wrexham defence. The home side have more to lose but more to gain and their approach will likely be dictated by Wycombe’s result. A Chairboys loss will give them more confidence to attack with a win guaranteeing promotion, though if they win they may be a bit more cautious. Either way, they will want to put on a show, and have the talent to look like scoring every game. With both sides unbeaten in six, this is going to be a hard fought game of two strong sides, so that will likely be reflected in the game.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a huge game for both teams. Wrexham know a win here could see them promoted for a third consecutive season if Wycombe lose earlier in the day; even if Wycombe win, a Wrexham victory would keep them two points clear with a game left, which is huge. As for Charlton, a win would propel them into the automatic promotion picture, but a loss would mathematically end those hopes.

In terms of form coming into this, it’s fantastic for both sides. Both are unbeaten in their last six, with Charlton winning five and Wrexham winning three. In their last fixtures, Wrexham claimed a crucial 2-1 win over Blackpool while Charlton beat Wycombe 4-0.

Taking fixture history into account, Wycombe have won seven to Charlton’s three, though they have only played once in the last 40 years. That was the reverse this season, which was a 2-2 draw.
