Leeds United will have one foot in the Premier League if they can overcome a Stoke City side who will be aiming to be mathematically safe from relegation by Monday teatime at Elland Road.
Our Three Predictions For Leeds United vs Stoke City:
- First Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Match Result – Leeds United – 1/4
- Second Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Under 2.5 Goals – 21/20
- Third Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Half-Time Result – Draw – 8/5
First Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Match Result – Leeds United – 1/4
Promotion could be achieved on Monday evening if results go Leeds’ way, but it requires them to do their part and beat a tough Stoke side. Mark Robins’ side won’t be at Elland Road to make up the numbers, as they too could be celebrating on Monday. Championship survival is all but assured with three games to spare thanks to an incredible run of form since the March international break. But this is perhaps their toughest test of the season, aiming to become the first side since Burnley in September to win in West Yorkshire. Leeds have won sixteen of their 21 home encounters this campaign, while Stoke have only won four away from Staffordshire all season. The Potters did beat Cardiff last Saturday to build on their stalemate at Preston, which followed four successive away losses. Nevertheless, expect a Leeds victory despite Stoke’s resurgence in form.
Second Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Under 2.5 Goals – 21/20
Along with having the best record in front of goal at home (51), only Burnley have conceded fewer than the Whites’ twelve at Elland Road. Though in their last six games in West Yorkshire across all competitions, their defence has been breached on five occasions. Only two teams in the second tier have scored fewer times than the Potters sixteen away from home, though their defensive record is slightly better with 31 against. With that in mind, Leeds should be expected to win by a couple of goals to nil.
Third Prediction For Leeds United vs Stoke City: Half-Time Result – Draw – 8/5
If any weakness can be attributed to the Whites, it is their first-half record. They sit third, trailing eleven times at the interval, while the same number have been level after 45 minutes. Stoke, meanwhile, have seen 25 of their 43 Championship games level at half-time, the most in the Championship. The Potters rise to fourteenth in this table, and with all the pressure on Leeds, it wouldn’t be a surprise if nothing could separate the sides by the half-time whistle on Monday.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
All three sides vying for automatic promotion were victorious at different times yesterday, as Leeds had the last laugh by returning to the summit on Friday evening. Burnley had temporarily stolen top spot after the Clarets recorded a comeback victory at nine-man Watford to stretch their unbeaten run to 30 games. Sheffield United had been feeling the heat recently, losing three on the bounce, which had seen them tumble out of the top two. The Blades have never been promoted in nine Play-Off campaigns, but kept themselves in the automatic race by defeating Cardiff City. It was then over to the Whites, who were handed a difficult assignment at Oxford United. But Manor Solomon continued his fine recent form by netting the first-half winner to leave Leeds ever-closer to promotion.
Any fears of a Leeds collapse similar to 2019 and 2024 appear to have eased drastically following three wins in succession. Daniel Farke will have been fearing the worst after one win in March. They travelled to Portsmouth on a seventeen-game unbeaten run, but were undone by a Colby Bishop winner after the hour mark. A midweek success looked like the Whites had quickly recovered from this mini-blip, but they required a comeback to gain a point in the capital after QPR had raced into a two-goal lead. A 2-2 draw was also an unwelcome return from the international break, as the West Yorkshire outfit threw away their late lead even deeper into the match through another Illan Meslier error. Luton began April by taking further points off Leeds, but that was the last time the Whites dropped points following three successive wins over Middlesbrough, Preston and Oxford.
Stoke City have returned from the international break in excellent form, which has all but confirmed Championship survival. A five-game unbeaten run has moved them seven points clear of the drop zone with three games remaining. The Potters have climbed to sixteenth in the standings, meaning their place in the second tier should be sealed on Monday. Successive wins without conceding against Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday made it three wins from five, with stalemates against Luton Town and Preston North End following their success over QPR.
That means that a potentially awkward final few games of the season have little riding on them in terms of survival. Following their Elland Road outing, the Potters host Sheffield United in their final home game of the season. Stoke then make the short trip down the A50 to Derby on the final day of the season. What once appeared to be a shootout for survival has likely been avoided from the Potters’ perspective. Mark Robins will be hopeful that next season, his side will be challenging at the top end of the second tier as they look for a return to the top flight. Based on their last seven games, in which only the top two have taken more points, they may be in the race to achieve just that.
A Leeds win, coupled with a Sheffield United loss to Burnley, will mean the Whites are promoted. Failing that, there will be opportunities next weekend before the Whites face Bristol City on Monday evening. The Blades play Stoke on Friday evening, before the Clarets have a Saturday lunchtime clash against QPR. If it goes down to the final day, then Plymouth Argyle await Daniel Farke’s outfit in the South West. In the 105-year history of this meeting, Leeds have the clear edge across 98 meetings. The Whites have won exactly 50% of those encounters, romping to a five-nil success almost five years ago. Promotion was close to being sealed with four games to go that day, and they could be even closer by 5pm on Monday. On Boxing Day last year, Joel Piroe got both in a two-nil success at the bet365 Stadium.
