1st Prediction For Hull City vs Preston North End: Preston North End to win 16/5

The bookmakers see Hull City as firm favourites heading into Monday’s game, but their form is not much better than Preston North End’s. Therefore, it could be very fruitful to predict the away side to win. The Tigers have only won once in their last six games whilst Preston have only won once in their last seven matches, showing that both teams are in pretty poor form. Additionally, Hull City’s record at home this season has been very poor. Ruben Selles’ men have picked up just 20 points in their 21 matches at the MKM Stadium. This is the lowest of any side in the second tier and they are the only Championship team to have less points than games played on home turf. Whilst some may argue that the Tigers’ form has picked up since the arrival of Selles, the Spaniard has the same points per game over his tenure as Paul Heckingbottom has over the course of this season.

2nd Prediction For Hull City vs Preston North End: Hull City to score: no 14/5

The main reason for Hull City’s relatively poor form is their lack of goals. This, combined with the fact that Preston’s relative strength is their defence, means that it is highly likely that the home side will find the back of the net on Monday. The Lilywhites have conceded a very respectable 1.2 goals per game over the course of the season, meaning they have the 12th-best defence in the second tier. They have also kept 13 clean sheets this term, the eighth-most in the league and more than fifth-placed Bristol City. Hull have only scored twice in their last five league games, the least of any side in the league, and they have scored the second-least goals per game over the entire league campaign. The Yorkshire-based side not a very creative team, as they rank 20th for big chances created, nor are they prolific finishers, they have missed 55 of their 73 big chances. The Tigers’ attacking record at home does not make for good reading either; only Luton Town have scored less goals at home than Ruben Selles’ side.

3rd Prediction For Hull City vs Preston North End: Sam Greenwood to score any time 99/20

Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood is one of the Lilywhites’ most influential attacking players. But, the 23-year-old will be eager to get on the scoresheet as he is amidst a long barren run in front of goal. Greenwood is Preston’s third-highest scorer in the league this season, having netted five times in 37 appearances, though his attacking numbers say he should have scored more. The former Arsenal youngster has an xG for the season of 6.3, meaning he has underperformed by 1.3 goals and there is extra attacking potential which could be harnessed. As well as this, he has taken more shots than 91% of Championship strikers and won more duels than 92% of second tier frontmen.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Hull City currently occupy 20th place in the Championship after a tough campaign which has seen them fall away from the playoff race they were in last season. Ruben Selles’ men have accumulated 45 points in 43 games which puts them two points above the drop zone. But, the Tigers have picked up just four points in their last five games to put them in 18th place in the form table and a late-season resurgence from Luton Town has meant that they will be in need of a win on Monday. However, their season-defining game will likely be five days later, when they host 21st-placed Derby County in what could effectively be a relegation playoff game.

As for Preston North End, whilst they have not reached the typical safety target of 50 points, they are looking relatively comfortable heading into the final three games of the season. Paul Heckingbottom’s side have picked up 49 points in their 43 league games and currently sit in 17th place in the Championship. Although the final three games will have very little jeopardy, Heckingbottom will expect his side to perform at their usual levels and a strong end to the season could realistically see the Lilywhites finish as high as 13th.

The reverse fixture was a tense affair as neither team created near one xG. A 60th-minute goal from Brad Potts was enough to secure a victory for Preston.
