Sheffield United host Cardiff City at Bramall Lane on Saturday in a clash that will have repercussions at both ends of the Championship.
Our Three Predictions For Sheffield United vs Cardiff City
- First Prediction: Sheffield United To Win – 57/100
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20
- Third Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 83/100
First Prediction For Sheffield United vs Cardiff City – Sheffield United To Win – 57/100
Sheffield United have suffered a major blow to their automatic promotion hopes over the last two weeks by losing their last three games. They really need to return to winning ways to maintain their slim chances of a top two finish and keep the pressure on Leeds United and Burnley. A return to Bramall Lane against a team who look destined for League One next season could be just the tonic, and it would be a major shock to see them succumb to a fourth successive defeat.
Cardiff have been struggling to put together any run of form in their bid for survival. Although they recently embarked ona four-game unbeaten run, three finished as a draw. They then suffered a major blow by losing to fellow strugglers Stoke City last time out. The Bluebirds remain just one point from safety but it’s difficult to see them getting anything here.
Second Prediction For Sheffield United vs Cardiff City – Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20
Sheffield United have been resilient at the back for much of the season, proven by the fact that only 38% of their fixtures this season have seen both teams score. That percentage is higher than only Blackburn Rovers and Burnley, although it is worth noting that they have only kept three clean sheets from their last 10 outings.
Cardiff rank much higher in this statistic, with 57% of their games seeing them score and concede in the same game. However, they have drawn blanks in two of their last four and also failed to score when the two teams met back in December. The pair also met in the FA Cup in January, with the Welsh-based outfit winning 1-0. Four of the last five meetings between the pair have seen this bet come in.
Third Prediction For Sheffield United vs Cardiff City – Under 2.5 Goals – 83/100
Sheffield United games have been low scoring for much of the season. Only 15 of their 42 outings have produced at least three goals, a percentage of just 36%. Even with their recent poor run of form, only two of their last seven have gone over this market. The Blades have built their campaign on narrow wins and clean sheets, which is likely to be the same here.
Cardiff are also low in the over 2.5 goals market, with just 45% of their games hitting this mark. Three of their last four have also been low scoring affairs, whilst four of the last five meetings between the two teams have also seen under three goals.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Sheffield United topped the table at the end of last month. However, they’ve lost all three of their games (against Oxford United, Millwall and Plymouth Argyle) in April to slip to third and are five points behind both Leeds United and Burnley. Their downturn in form has been a shock. They recorded four wins and a draw in March and looked to be on course for an instant return to the Premier League Chris Wilder will be well aware of the importance of three points here, especially as he takes his side to Burnley on Easter Monday.
Cardiff seem to be slipping in to League One and missed a huge opportunity to move out of the bottom three last weekend. A win over Stoke City would have seen them climb above the Potters, but a late Will Fish own goal handed the points to Mark Robins’ team. That was the Bluebirds’ first defeat in five though, having beaten Blackburn Rovers before drawing with Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers and Preston North End.
The Blades have had the upper hand in this fixture in recent years. They’ve won the last five league meetings between the two, including a 2-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium in December. However, Cardiff did cause a mini shock in January when they left Bramall Lane with a 1-0 win in the FA Cup third round. The Bluebirds haven’t won in Sheffield in the league since 2011 but will be hoping to match their exploits from January.
