Swansea City interim manager Alan Sheehan believes that the process to name Luke Williams’ successor is ‘coming to a conclusion’.
The 38-year-old was handed the reins when the Swans opted to dismiss Williams in February. After impressing in his first few games in charge, he was given the role until the end of the campaign.
Since then, he has managed to steer the Welsh-based outfit away from a potential relegation battle into mid-table. His nine games in charge have been a huge success, recording just two defeats whilst winning his last three. This has seen Sheehan emerge as the favourite to land the position on a permanent basis.
Sheehan Announcement Imminent?
There has been speculation over the past couple of weeks that Sheehan was edging closer to the role. This is his second stint in caretaker charge of the team, with his first spell proving equally impressive.
Swansea host relegation-threatened Hull City tomorrow before travelling to Queens Park Rangers on Easter Monday. Speaking to the media ahead of the double-header, the former Notts County and Leeds United defender once again addressed the situation:
“I speak to the owners, I have spoken to Richard (Montague) and I think the process is coming to a conclusion.
“You guys will be the first to know. They had to go through the process. It’s been a few months now so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Continuing, Sheehan addressed his impressive points haul:
“I think as far as auditions go, points et cetera and some of the performances, I think we are in a really positive place right now.
“There is such a wonderful feel around the place. I just want to work hard, I want my staff to work hard and I think the level of work in the last while has been really outstanding.”
Writer’s View
Sheehan has made it abundantly clear that he wants to be given the chance to bring success back to Swansea. However, it is no secret that a number of potential candidates have been interviewed for the position. That said, it’s difficult to see them giving the job to anyone else right now, especially because this is his second ‘audition’, with the first one also producing an impressive run of form. Still, there’s no rush to make an announcement. Sheehan is in charge until the end of the season and the board may want to see how he finishes the campaign first.
