Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Coventry City had been on a run of nine wins from ten games, a run that had propelled them into the playoff places. Lampard’s side have since lost three of their last four and find themselves out of the playoff spots once again.

Last time out they went down 2-1 at home to league leaders Burnley despite taking a fifth-minute lead through Haji Wright.

The Sky Blues have not had an easy set of fixtures in recent weeks, losing to another of the top sides in Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The Blades were 2-0 up after half an hour and secured the three points after an hour before Jack Rudoni scored a consolation goal in the 92nd minute.

Coventry’s last win came against playoff rivals Sunderland at the Coventry Building Society Arena. American international Wright helped himself to a hat trick to inflict Sundlerland’s only defeat in their last six outings.

Derby County defeated City before Sunderland visited the midlands but the Sky Blues had won five on the bounce before that, including victories against Preston North End and Stoke City.

Lampard has overseen 25 games in all competitions, registering 14 wins and suffering eight losses. Coventry is currently seventh in the Championship and is a point behind Bristol City who occupy the final playoff spot.

City has taken 59 points from 40 games, winning 17, drawing eight and losing 15. Haji Wright is the top scorer this season with 11 goals and is followed by Ellis Simms who has eight. Jack Rudoni leads the assist charts with ten and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark have five apiece.

Portsmouth are still in a relegation battle to maintain their Championship status, sitting just four points ahead of the drop zone.

Pompey lost late on last time out away at Millwall, going down 2-1 at The Den. Before that, John Mousinho’s side gained a vital victory over Blackburn Rovers at Fratton Park.

That victory was sealed thanks to a 20th-minute Josh Murphy strike, his seventh goal and 17th goal involvement of the campaign.

Defeats to Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle have kept Pompey in trouble despite a superb win over promotion-chasing Leeds United. Nicolas Schmid put in an inspired performance in goal as a Colby Bishop strike secured three vital points against Daniel Farke’s side.

Portsmouth have won two and lost three of their last five matches and currently occupy 17th in the table on 45 points from 40 games. So far this season they have won 12, drawn nine and lost 19 times, scoring 48 times and conceding on 63 occasions.

The injured Callum Lang is the club’s top goal-getter with ten and he is followed by Josh Murphy and Colby Bishop who have scored seven times. Murphy leads the assist charts with ten ahead of Freddie Potts and Bishop who have four and three respectively.

These two cannot be separated over their last 12 meetings, with five wins each. In the reverse fixture, Norman Bassette opened the scoring for Coventry before Callum Lang took over and helped himself to four goals as Pompey ran out 4-1 winners.

Before that meeting in December, the last time these two teams met was during the prematurely curtailed 2019-20 season.

The sides met early in the season and played out a six-goal thriller when a nine-man Coventry came from 3-1 down to rescue a draw at Fratton Park, with their goals coming from Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila, Matt Godden and Michael Rose from the penalty spot.

They would meet again in February, around a month before the season was ended and points per game used to determine final standings. The 1-0 victory that Matt Godden earned Coventry proved vital as the Sky Blues finished top of the revised table and earned promotion back to the Championship.
