Our Three Predictions For Sunderland v Millwall

  • Prediction 1 – Sunderland To Win – 3/5
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 11/10
  • Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 5/2

First Prediction For Sunderland v Millwall – Sunderland To Win – 3/5

Sunderland were comprehensively beaten last time out, 3-0 at Coventry City. They will want to get back to winning ways in this game, and even though Millwall will provide stubborn opposition, they take the third best home record in the Championship into the game. They have only lost once all season in the division on home soil, and that alone could be the difference. However with automatic promotion now a very long shot, they will need to cement their playoff place with a good run in. They have won 11 of their 19 game at home, and outscored opposition by 16 goals. Millwall, do have a decent away record but have only won five of their 19 away trips, despite having the seventh best away record. They will need to be at their best to get anything from this game, as The Black Cats need to regain some of their early season form.

Second Prediction For Sunderland v Millwall – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 11/10

There should be plenty of goalmouth action in this game. Millwall will be enthused by Coventry getting three past Sunderland in the last game, and knowing that the defence has been leaking of late, coupled with their own appetite to stay in the playoff chase, The Lions will want to add to their somewhat low total of 17 games on the road so far. They do have a tight defence on their travels, conceding only 22, but this may be a stern test of their resolve. Sunderland score at home quite freely, as their 31 goals will show, and having scored 55 in total they should be able to breach an otherwise stubborn Millwall resistance.

Third Prediction For Sunderland v Millwall – Match To End In A Draw – 5/2

With Sunderland no longer chasing down the top three teams, unless of course they all suffer a monumental collapse, they will be settling for the playoffs. They doesn’t mean they are shutting up shop of course as they will want to warn off any complacency, and they do have a good home record to defend, at which they have drawn seven of the 19 games. Their last home game ended in a stalemate, a 1-1 result against Preston North End. Millwall have a point to prove, literally, and where they may not be able to defy the odds and grab an unexpected win, they could have enough for a draw, and that will just about see them still in the playoff hunt. Away from home the London teams have drawn eight times, and overall in the league they 12 draws in their 38 games played.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Trai Hume and Dennis Cirkin have held a steady line for most of the season, and manager Regis Le Bris will want then to keep a tight ship from here on in. They are still not guaranteed a playoff place, and will want to avoid a catastrophic end to the campaign. They should of course have enough in the tank, but just in case they will want Jobe Bellingham to keep things ticking over in midfield, along with Romaine Mundle. The pair have youth on their side, to go along with Luke O’Nien, who will use his experience to guide them safely in to an extended season. Up front they will want more goals from Spanish striker Eliezer Mayenda, who currently sits on seven, as well as five assists.

Millwall come into this game off the back of a solid 1-0 win over Stoke City, a result that keeps them in contention for a late charge at the playoffs. This could actually be a preview of a playoff game should The Lions get in. Manager Alex Neil will look at this game not so much as a free hit, but a chance to prove that his side can compete with the best in the league. After a loss at Leeds United, 2-0, they did show they can bounce back well with the win against Stoke. If they do have any hope of going up they will need more goals. Josh Coburn has four from his seven starts, and six substitute appearances, and if the young forward continues that form he might be the difference. At the back Joe Bryan has played 33 times, and will need to be the calm head during the run in. Mihailo Ivanovic could well be the x-factor though, the 20-year-old Serbian striker has six goals and a fan favourite.
