‘Excellent All Day’ – Carlisle United Boss Assesses Huge Win

Carlisle United boss Mark Hughes was full of praise for his players after their vital victory over Bromley on Saturday, as reported on the club’s official website.

The Blues recorded a crucial 2-1 win at Brunton Park to keep their survival hopes alive.

Hard Work And Quality

Hughes was delighted with his side and praised both the effort and qualities of his players.

“I thought we were excellent all day long, we could have won the game quite comfortably really.”

“I thought they put a huge shift in. Showed good quality as well, were brave in and out of possession and yeah, took the game away from them really.”

Proving A Point

The former Bradford City boss was thrilled with how his players put on a performance many felt they were incapable of but is desperate for consistency.

“Maybe we’ve been questioned about whether or not we had the ability to put a performance in like that, I think we’ve probably proved a lot of people wrong now. The only thing with it is we need to, obviously that’s the standard set now, so we can’t dip from that.”

“It would be very difficult for any team to go up against us today in my view because I thought our general play was excellent, so we’ve just got to replicate it for the nine games we’ve got left.”

First Goal Vital

Stephen Wearne grabbed the opener after 13 minutes and Hughes was delighted to get ahead but also with how his side responded to being pegged back.

“I said before the game that first goals help shape the game and shape the confidence of the team and yeah, we were disappointed with their equaliser, could have been avoided and we just, probably as a consequence of the season we’ve had, we had a little bit of a wobble just then but picked ourselves up again and went again and I thought second-half we were fantastic.”

An Opportunity

“I thought it was a really good performance from start to finish, everybody played a part. I thought they were really determined to get a result today and I think everybody saw that in their manner and their ability today.”

“Really pleased for everybody, I thought it was a huge effort and we need more of the same on Tuesday.”

“We’ve got an opportunity to do something special if we grasp the opportunity to play like we did today.”

“I see good signs.”

Writer’s View

A potentially huge win for Carlisle that keeps their hopes of a remarkable escape alive. Should the Cumbrians repeat this result on Tuesday, it would bring real belief that they can claw themselves to safety.
