Our Three Predictions For Lincoln City vs Exeter City

  • First Prediction: Lincoln City To Win – 33/50
  • Second Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 57/100
  • Third Prediction: James Collins – Anytime Goalscorer – 21/10

First Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – Lincoln City To Win – 33/50

Lincoln enter this game placed firmly in mid-table in League One. It was a campaign which offered high hopes, especially considering they missed out on a place in the play-offs last season on the final day. Although they began strongly, a run of just three wins in 18 outings saw them plummet down the table. However, they have been one of the standout teams of the past few weeks. Although form shows they have won three and lost three of their last six, they have scored an incredible 15 times during that period, five more than any other team. This includes nine in their last two home fixtures, where they secured a 4-1 win over Crawley Town before following that with a 5-0 victory over Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Things look to be clicking at the LNER Stadium for Michael Skubala, although it will come too late for a late push for the play-offs. However, the head coach will be firmly focused on finishing as high as possible and another three points should be on the cards here.

Second Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – Under 2.5 Goals – 57/100

Although Lincoln have been formidable in front of goal as of late, Exeter are a team that don’t concede a lot of goals. Their last five games have all produced under three goals, with them scoring six and conceding five. The Grecians have recovered from a run of poor form throughout January and early February, where they conceded three times against Blackpool and Charlton Athletic, four against Stevenage and six against Leyton Orient. As such, Lincoln will need to be at their best to navigate a way through Gary Caldwell’s defence.

This is a fixture which traditionally produces a low scoring result too. The pair played out a 0-0 draw in November, whereas last season’s results saw a 1-0 Lincoln win at Sincil Bank and a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park. Expect similar here.

Third Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – James Collins – Anytime Goalscorer – 21/10

Lincoln were crying out for a League One proven during the winter transfer window, so who better than a player with over 200 career goals? Collins played a key role in Derby County’s promotion last season but had found himself down the pecking order in the Championship. A move to the Imps materialised in January and he hit the ground running to score off the bench on his debut against Peterborough United.

The 34-year-old has been tasked with leading the Imps line since, scoring five goals in 11 appearances. The latest of those came in the 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday, the second home game in succession in which he has found the back of the net. In a game tipped to be short on goals, Collins could be the difference maker.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Lincoln seem to have recovered from the poor form which blighted their campaign from November to February. An emphatic 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday, which included a stunning hat trick from academy graduate Jovon Makama, was their second big home win in succession in front of their own fans, following on from a 4-1 victory against Crawley Town. A 1-0 defeat against League One leaders Birmingham City was sandwiched by those two games, but their performance at St Andrew’s was a good one. They eventually succumbed to a Kieran Dowell penalty but had chances to level late on. Still, the Imps are inconsistent, as shown by the 1-0 reverse against struggling Burton Albion late last month, whilst the three goals they scored in a 4-3 loss at Barnsley perhaps flattered them somewhat.

Exeter’s season has been somewhat similar than their opponents. They started the campaign strongly, briefly flirting with the play-off positions. However, just like Lincoln, they picked up just three wins between mid-November and mid-February. The Grecians are currently on a five-match unbeaten run though with three draws and two wins. Their last outing saw them draw 1-1 with Rotherham United on Saturday, following on from successive 2-0 victories against Mansfield Town and Shrewsbury Town.

The pair played out a drab 0-0 in front of the Sky cameras back in November in a game to forget. Lincoln secured a 1-0 win at the LNER Stadium last season, with the Imps unbeaten in their last three against the Grecians. However, the pair met in the League Two play-off semi final in 2018, with Exeter progressing over the two legs. It’s worth noting that the Devon-based side haven’t come away from Sincil Bank with three points since 2009.
