Swansea City v Burnley: Predictions, Lineups, and Odds (15/3)

Burnley may be conceding a little more now, but they are still very hard to beat as they chase automatic promotion out of the Championship. All they can keep doing is picking up points, and this may be a game they can do that as Swansea City are inconsistent.

Our Three Predictions For Swansea City v Burnley

  • Prediction 1 – Burnley To Win – 21/20
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 23/20
  • Prediction 3 – Total Goals Over 1.5 – 11/25

First Prediction For Swansea City v Burnley – Burnley To Win – 21/20

Third place Burnley were held to a draw in their last game, and missed opportunities cannot happen often between now and the end of the season if they are to gain automatic promotion. That was at home, and their away form has still been good in the run in, if you take away the FA Cup blip where they lost 3-0 at Preston North End. They have beaten Swansea City on each of their last three meetings, and there isn’t much to suggest they will not make it four. The Welsh side has won their last two home games, and against teams that are also pushing for promotion, off the back of three straight defeats. But Burnley’s tight defence and greater need for three points should be enough to see them over the line in this game, and keep the pressure on the teams above them.

Second Prediction For Swansea City v Burnley – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 23/20

The once water tight defence of Burnley has started to show some leaks of late, largely down to the FA Cup loss where Preston set a blueprint for others to follow. Also the fact that in the Championship, especially when pressure starts to take hold, clean sheets become even harder to come by. Swansea will take their recent home form into this game, they have scored four times in the last two matches at home, and with the Burnley defence now being breached more often they will take heart from that. Burnley, in their hunt for promotion, will need to score more frequently than they are now. Not that the goals have dried up, but three goals in their last five away games may not be enough for a promotion run, but now with the pressure on they will need to keep pace with their 23 in 18 away games, and 50 overall from their 37 played.

Third Prediction For Swansea City v Burnley – Total Goals Over 1.5 – 11/25

This will not be a high scoring game. Burnley matches have not been so far, despite them being in the top three for virtually the whole season. Largely down to having the meanest defence in the league, they have not have had to be the highest scorers, but have not been goal shy. Seven goals in the last three games, means they are starting to open up more, and in doing so starting to concede also. Swansea have also managed to keep the scoreboard lit, with a goal a game average and at home they have scored 25 in 18 matches. This will be a tight affair, but goals will come, as both sides need to get points for differing reasons.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Alan Sheehan’s side are far from being out of trouble in the relegation scrap. They are one of four teams on 26 points, and just two points from the drop zone. The fight is likely to go down the very end of the season, but with two consecutive wins they have put themselves in a better position, even if it is still perilous. Home hero Liam Cullen leads the Swans scoring charts with 10 goals and two assists, and he will have to keep being a threat if they are to steer clear. Josh Tymon has played the most, alongside Ben Cabango, in defence, and the two will need keep things tighter at the back if they are to keep recent momentum up and move away from the threat of League One football next season.

Burnley are hanging in there, and with Leeds United and Sheffield United still setting the pace, they need to keep doing so. Every match the intensity increases and Scott Parker will need to use his experience at this level to keep Burnley in the automatic promotion hunt. They will still rely on a keeping things tight at the back. It has been the rock of their campaign so far, and it will be hard to change that now, as it is their DNA. We know how good they are at the back, so the focus will need to be upfront, and how effective they can attack teams. Josh Brownhill is continuing to impress and the midfielder is leading all Burnley scorers with 12 goals, four ahead of Dutch striker Zian Flemming. Brownhill also has four assists, and that is only bettered by Jaidon Anthony who has six. If these four players continue to thrive there is every chance that they will help take one of the top two places, and return to the Premier League.
