Our Three Predictions For Sheffield United vs Bristol City

  • First Prediction: Sheffield United To Win – 1/1
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 9/10
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 11/10

First Prediction For Sheffield United vs Bristol City – Sheffield United To Win – 1/1

Sheffield United have a glorious opportunity to move to the top of the Championship, albeit temporarily at least. With Leeds United’ shock defeat against Portsmouth on Sunday, the two teams are locked on 76 points, with Daniel Farke’s team holding on to the summit thanks to their vastly superior goal difference. The Blades’ title rivals don’t play until Wednesday, meaning a point here would see them hit top spot for the first time since before Christmas. An in-form Bristol City side will provide a test though, although Sheffield United enter this game having won eight of their last 10 league outings. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that both defeats came at Bramall Lane and they have only won three of their last seven in front of their own supporters.

The Robins currently sit on the fringes of the play-offs and harbour Premier League ambitions of their own. They sit seventh in the division, two points behind sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion, although did lose ground when they were held to a 1-1 draw against 10-man Hull City at the weekend. Liam Manning’s side are unbeaten in five games, although have won just one of their last 10 away from home.

Second Prediction For Sheffield United vs Bristol City – Both Teams To Score – 9/10

Prior to Christmas, Sheffield United’s defensive record was excellent, conceding in just seven of their 22 games. Since then though, they’ve kept just four clean sheets in their last 14 in the league, showing they have become more susceptible at the back. The Blades keep grinding out results though and have failed to score on just two occasions during that time. Only 13 of their 36 games this season have seen both teams score, although seven of those have come since the turn of the year.

Bristol City have seen both teams score in half of their fixtures to date, including the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United in November. They do tend to concede on the road though, with their only clean sheet away from Ashton Gate in their last 10 games coming against Millwall earlier this month.

Third Prediction For Sheffield United vs Bristol City – Over 2.5 Goals – 11/10

Due to conceding more goals this side of Christmas, Sheffield United have often found themselves needing to score at least twice to pick up a victory. This has been evident in their recent wins over Queens Park Rangers, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth. Factoring in the 3-1 defeat against Leeds, four of their last six league games have produced at least three goals, whilst the same can be said for the clash between the two teams earlier this season.

With so much riding on this game for both teams, this could make for an open affair in Yorkshire. Bristol City have been decent in front of goal, scoring 46 times in their previous 36 fixtures. Meanwhile, the Blades have hit the back of the net 51 times.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Both teams enter this game in good form and harbouring ambitions of Premier League football. Sheffield United’s 1-0 win over Preston North End at the weekend saw them move level on points with league leaders Leeds United, who lost 1-0 at Portsmouth. Saturday’s result followed on from a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, which softened the blow of the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds at Bramall Lane at the end of last month. Chris Wilder’s side have won eight of their last 10 and if it wasn’t for their two point deduction at the beginning of the season, they would be sitting two points clear at the top.

Bristol City have been going quietly about their business and have been sitting just outside the play-off places for much of the past couple of months. They did briefly slip into the top six with a 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough on February 21st, although their game was played on a Friday night and other results the day after saw them drop out. The Robins missed a huge opportunity to stay level on points with sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion at the weekend when they could only muster a 1-1 draw against struggling Hull City, who played with 10 men for most of the game.

Sheffield United won the previous meeting between the two in November, emerging from Ashton Gate with a 2-1 victory. The Blades have been the dominant force in this fixture in recent times, winning five of the previous six clashes, with the other ending in a draw. Bristol City’s last win came in 2019, a season in which they did the double over the Yorkshire-based outfit. Overall, Sheffield United have 34 wins, Bristol City have 16 whilst 12 have ended in a draw.
