Key Sheffield United Figure Set For New Contract

Sheffield United look set to renew the contract of club captain Jack Robinson, according to reports from the Sheffield Star.

The 31-year-old former Queens Park Rangers man has been a key figure for The Blades this season at centre-back, with the club being light in the position for most of their promotion push. His current deal at Bramall Lane expires at the end of this season.

Captain Set For New Deal

According to the Sheffield Star, United are poised to remain at the club beyond the end of this campaign due to a clause in his existing contract. Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed the news to the media, saying:

“Jack triggers an extension after 25 games. He didn’t play at the start because of the partnership of Harry [Souttar] and Anel [Ahmedhodzic] and Jack was patient in his approach.

“Jack will trigger that, so there’s no unbelievable rush. Jack will want to deal with that and we want to as well, but the major thing was getting through the January transfer window.”

Wilder had previously hinted at his hope to extend his contract earlier in the season as the South Yorkshire side focused on securing their existing talents to new deals, most prominently with the in-demand Ollie Arblaster.

Striker Negotiations Continue

The same report also provided an update on Rhian Brewster’s contract talks, with the Champions League winner set to leave the club as a free agent in the summer. On his situation, The Blades’ boss added:

“We’re having ongoing discussions with Rhian. I was talking to [chief executive] Stephen Bettis yesterday about contracts and plans, and it’s something we have to acknowledge and hopefully deal with.”

Jack Robinson remaining at the club keeps a key leader in the dressing room at Bramall Lane for at least next season. Arguably he has been lucky with the season-ending injury of Harry Souttar to reach the milestone needed to trigger a new contract, but he has stepped up when the team needed him barring a few incidents in the season. Should the club go back up to the Premier League, it would be hard to imagine he will keep a regular starting position but will be a very key squad option to have at their disposal.
