“It Is What It Is” – Stoke City Man Makes Contract Admission

Jordan Thompson admitted he would like to stay at Stoke City as his contract with the club winds down.

The 28-year-old is the longest-serving player for The Potters after joining the club in 2020 from Blackpool. He has recorded 170 appearances for the club but has only been limited to 18 this term due to fitness issues.

“First And Foremost”

Thompson, alongside seven other first-team players including Enda Stevens, are out of contract this summer and the Northern Irish international has made his feelings clear about a potential new deal. He told Stoke On Trent Live:

“I’ve been a good number of years now and my wee son is a Stoke fan. The most frustrating thing, because you’ve been here so long you want to see the club progress and go upwards rather than looking over our shoulder. First and foremost we want to finish this season strong.

“My contract situation is what it is but I would like to stay at the club. I love being here to be honest with you. But that’s got nothing to do with the priority at the moment. I just want to kick on with the football and those things then take care of themselves.”

He has been involved in three of the club’s last four games after recovering from a hernia issue and started in their most recent game against Watford.

Writer’s View

Jordan Thompson has made his feelings clear and now the ball is in the club’s court if they want to keep him around in the future. This hasn’t been the first season he has suffered from injury issues, only playing 15 times in his debut season in Staffordshire and made 18 league appearances in 21/22. Nevertheless, he has been an important servant for the club and with the high potential of a major squad overhaul in the summer under Mark Robins, having a senior experienced figure at the club will be a very helpful tool to have in the next phase of Stoke City’s plan to return to the Premier League.
