Our Three Predictions For Cardiff City v Burnley

  • Prediction 1 – Burnley To Win – 9/10
  • Prediction 2 – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 11/25
  • Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 23/20

First Prediction For Cardiff City v Burnley – Burnley To Win – 9/10

Burnley are undefeated in the Championship in their last 21 games, practically half the season, and yet still sit outside the automatic promotion places. For a side that has only conceded nine goals too, this is the harsh reality of Championship football. These statistics alone suggest a Burnley win, but Cardiff City have an uncanny knack of playing to their full potential against their visitors, and have only lost once in their last 13 games played against them. A statistic that may well get thrown away after this game. After being dumped out of the FA Cup, albeit a much changed side, Burnley will want to keep their run going, and also another clean sheet, to get back into the hunt for those coveted two automatic spots back to the Premier League.

Second Prediction For Cardiff City v Burnley – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 11/25

After surprisingly dropping three goals to Preston North End in the FA Cup, Burnley will want to preserve their epic run of games without conceding in the Championship. The blueprint however may have been set, and Cardiff could well be the first to test, if Preston’s way is the best way to take on an otherwise ultra tight defence. Burnley have outscored opponents 43-9 this season, and even if the Welsh side cannot penetrate their visitors goal, the fact that Burnley are chasing promotion could well be enough to run up the score here. Even so, you feel this is a good game for both at the right time, meaning that the scoreboard could well be glowing with a high score.

Third Prediction For Cardiff City v Burnley – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 23/20

Cardiff are a level 20-20 in terms of goals for and against at home. They will do well to break down a Burnley defence that has only conceded nine in total, and five away from home. As said before they do have an advantage now in that they can look at how Preston carved this defence open three times, and take that into this game, and hopefully take their above a goal a game average up further. Of course, Burnley, even if they were to suffer a first goal conceded in the Championship in 13 games, will want to get back amongst the goals themselves and be more like the side that put four past Sheffield Wednesday just a couple of weeks ago. As stubborn as the promotion sides back line may be, I can see it being breached again, and it may be a case of how many Burnley need to secure a win.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Callum Robinson has scored 12 times so far this season for Cardiff City, and no one else has managed more than three. So to say the spotlight turns to him in front of goal is an understatement. The pressure weighs on the 30-year-old Irishman, but he is still one of the leading lights in the division, this despite Omer Riza’s side battling relegation. His worth means he is one of the first names on the team sheet, but fellow Irishman Callum O’Dowda is also rated highly at the club and has made the most appearances so far than anyone else. Swiss forward Yousef Salech has three goals from just two starts, and six substitute showings, and will also be a threat in this game. The Bluebirds need the points, and will be buoyed after a good showing in the FA Cup last Friday night at Aston Villa, although the 2-0 score line went against them.

It is back to the main business at hand for Scott Parker’s men, and he will want a big reaction to going out of the FA Cup. A win here will put them just two points behind second place Sheffield United, and what is already a fierce and tense battle for promotion becomes more so. The loss in the Cup means no more distractions, and with that, no chance for excuses. The squad is talented enough, and after setting the early pace, they have slipped out of those valuable promotion spots. CJ Egan-Riley will want to steer the side through a tricky night to keep his defensive line intact. And Parker will be hoping Zian Flemming can add to his seven goal tally. The difference maker could be yet another Irish player, Josh Cullen. His drive and energy from midfield means he has played the most games, 31, from this talented outfit. Burnley have to win this match or they could start to slip away from the top two, and the playoffs will be a wild ride that no one will fancy after a long season.
