A hugely important game at the wrong end of League Two, has struggling Tranmere Rovers host Accrington Stanley. Both sides sit in the places directly above the dreaded drop zone, and both know that nothing short of a win will do.
Our Three Predictions For Tranmere Rovers v Accrington Stanley
- Prediction 1 – Accrington Stanley To Win – 2/1
- Prediction 2 – Match To End In A Draw – 53/25
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25
First Prediction For Tranmere Rovers v Accrington Stanley – Accrington Stanley To Win – 2/1
Two teams that in recent times have always seemed to end up in a relegation battle, so it is no surprise that both are just out side the relegation zone this season also. Tranmere have hardly made their home a fortress, or at least in the win column as they have only managed four wins from their 16 games on home soil. Only scoring 13 games along the way, something that could cost them dearly. Accrington have lost three away games on the spin, and will need to arrest that issue to win this game. They have a knack of pulling out wins when it is absolutely necessary, so with an opposition that is poor in front of goal at home, they could well find that a two goal salvo could be enough, something they have not done on the road since December 4.
Second Prediction For Tranmere Rovers v Accrington Stanley – Match To End In A Draw – 53/25
This may well be the safest bet on the night as both Rovers and Stanley will not want to lose this match, and be a little cut-off at t he bottom, but both could play so cautious they cancel each other out. Points have been at a premium for both and Tranmere have actually drawn as many games as they have won and lost at home, eight. The goal tally stands at 13-16 and that would suggest a very tight encounter. Stanley come in having only picked up two draws away from home, but they do score more frequently, 19 on the road, and they could pick up another here, but Tranmere may well cancel the out.
Third Prediction For Tranmere Rovers v Accrington Stanley – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25
They may not light up the scoreboard each game, but this could be the time where they have to as both will push for a win, but at the same time have enough to not lose. Tranmere have only scored 23 times this season, and that is level with bottom side Carlisle United. They have scored 13 of those at home, and they do have one of the better home records in terms of conceding, so Stanley will have to be their peak to score. They will fancy their chances though as they have the 11th best away scoring form with 19 goals. They are leaky though away, and their third worst in the league with 29 conceded, giving Rovers ample chance to grab a goal, and who knows maybe two, something they have not done since December 14 in a 2-1 win against Harrogate Town.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
For a team that has struggled so much in front of goal, Tranmere Rovers do have a fairly decent pairing upfront. Omari Patrick and Connor Jennings, have scored 10 times between them and have also gathered four assists, two each. This is pretty much as good as it gets up front though, and now at the tough end of the season, Nigel Adkins will want more from these two as well as the rest of the team if they are to avoid the drop. Rovers have been treading water for far too long now, and need a spark. Tom Davies and David Turnbull have been mainstays in the backline alongside young Irishman Lee O’Connor. The trio will have to remain strong, not just in this game, but the remainder of the campaign in what could well be a very nervy ending to the season.
Accrington Stanley are flirting with the drop again, and each time they do, they manage to steer themselves clear. Could this be the time they finally succumb to the drop? Well John Doolan’s side ran Doncaster Rovers close this past Saturday, and will be looking for the same commitment from his team in this game, which is the cliched six-pointer. At 37 years old Shaun Whalley is still the man making Stanley tick and his seven goals and four assists lead the way in both categories. He is being helped by four goal Tyler Walton, and Scottish midfielder Donald Love, who although only one goal, still is creative enough with four assists. Benn Ward is one of the better players in a young defence, but they did well against Doncaster so could well hold their own on a cold Tuesday night in Merseyside, and beyond.
