Burton Albion Announce Free Agent Deal

Burton Albion have added reinforcements to help with their relegation battle with the signing of Anthony Forde on a short-term deal.

The wing-back was released by fellow League One side Wrexham at the start of February after being moved out of Phil Parkinson’s squad plans, and has only played in the club’s EFL Trophy fixtures this season.

Brewers Add Options

Udoka Godwin-Malife has been the first-choice option at right wing-back this season, playing 28 times in the division for The Brewers after joining from Swindon Town over the summer, however is now joined by Forde, who secured back-to-back promotions with Wrexham and has other League One experience with Rotherham United, Walsall and Oxford United.

Speaking to the club’s official media upon the announcement of the deal, the 31-year-old said:

“I can’t wait to get going and hopefully be a part of something good – I’m delighted to sign.

“My standards are pretty high and it’s up to me to show what I can do now. I’d like to think I have a lot of experience and have played most of my career in League One. When I came in and trained last week I could tell what a great group and great place it is.”

Writer’s View

Burton have begun picking up results and a signing like Anthony Forde can pick up their confidence further. He is a very versatile and experienced player for the league and now can get some regular game time back in the division following his fall down the pecking order at Wrexham. Gary Bowyer’s side are beginning to close the gaps to safety and have the chance to escape the relegation zone should they beat Lincoln City this weekend and Peterborough United lose to Huddersfield Town. He is a player of real quality and can be a great asset to Albion’s survival hopes.
