Leeds United have been said to be ‘nigh on home and hosed’ in the race for promotion following their dramatic 2-1 win over Sunderland last night.
Having had to wait until Monday to face the Black Cats, Leeds saw themselves drop to second in the Championship over the weekend. This was due to Sheffield United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday and for large chunks of the night, it appeared as if the title race would be blown wide open.
Sunderland began the evening seven points behind Daniel Farke’s team and were still clinging to their title hopes themselves. It appeared as if they would cut the gap to just four points when Wilson Isidor gave the Wearsiders the lead shortly after the half hour mark.
The Whites struggled to find a way through their opponents resilient back line but got their reward 12 minutes from time when Pascal Struijk nodded home the equaliser. Then, with just nine second remaining of added time, the defender repeated the trick to send Elland Road into euphoria.

Leeds Premier League Bound
It was a result which saw Leeds reclaim the top spot in what is looking to be another exciting end to a Championship season. According to talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan, the Yorkshire-based outfit can look forward to a return to the Premier League:
“Oh yeah, I think they’re nigh on home and hosed, they’ve got it in their own hands, they should be in this position, they should have been in this position last year.
“They’re a big club when you look at what they’ve achieved over the last few years and how long they spent out of the Premier League and how long it took them to get back and the challenges that they had, change of ownership, change of all processes which got them relegated, they should go up. They will go up, I don’t doubt it.”
Writer’s View
The Championship seems to deliver season after season and is widely considered one of the most exciting leagues in world football. This season is no different, with four clubs fighting it out for the two automatic promotion spots. Leeds may have all-but-ended Sunderland’s chances though, and this is possibly a result they will look back on as the one that catapulted them to success. Snatching victory from the claws of defeat is what winning teams do, and Leeds achieved just that.
