Our Three Predictions For Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County:

- Second Prediction For Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County: Under 2.5 Goals – 11/25

First Prediction For Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County: Match Result – Stockport County – 1/1
Despite disappointingly dropping points at the death on Tuesday evening at Bristol Rovers, Stockport can have no complaints about their previous five results. An exceptional winning run has turned them into genuine top two hopefuls, and they will have their eyes set on another victory tomorrow afternoon. County are almost as good on the road this term as they are at home, responding to consecutive defeats by going unbeaten in their past four. The Latics meanwhile have a bottom five home record, winning just four times in fourteen on their own patch. A run of one win in seven at home in all competitions means that Stockport should win this contest.
Second Prediction For Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County: Under 2.5 Goals – 11/25
In this part of Lancashire, goals aren’t often seen on a regular basis. Wigan are the lowest scorers with thirteen goals, meaning they average less than a goal per game. But only seven sides have conceded fewer than their fifteen, hence giving them the title of the lowest goal tally at a third tier ground this campaign. Stockport have been fairly resilient themselves on their travels, shipping the fifth fewest in the division with fourteen. But they are only behind the top two for goals scored this season with 47, managing twenty away from home. On the basis of these stats alone, a two goal away victory can be predicted for this meeting.
Third Prediction For Wigan Athletic vs Stockport County: Half-Time Result – Stockport County – 81/50
League One’s best first half performing side make the trip to The Brick Community Stadium this weekend. No side in the third tier have taken more points at the halfway stage of games than the Hatters 52, which ironically is fewer than the points they have accumulated in the entirety of games (54). They have led more games at this point (14) than any other side in the division, although they have played three games more than actual leaders Birmingham, who also rank highly. Wigan though also perform well in the opening half of games. The Latics would have taken 42 points if games ended after 45 minutes, eight higher and six places above their metrics over the full 90. Expect a narrow Stockport lead at the interval.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Stockport have stormed up the division, recording a winning sequence of five games before they were held at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening. County have gone from potential Play-Off chasers to a team challenging for yet another automatic promotion. That progress though was hit thanks to Rovers’ stoppage-time equaliser in midweek, meaning they currently sit five points outside the top two, having played two games more than Wycombe though.
A topsy-turvy December saw them beaten in four of their seven games across all competitions, but they held runaway leaders Birmingham to a draw on New Year’s Day. A disappointing loss to Mansfield was followed by their most recent defeat at Premier League Crystal Palace in the FA Cup. But they have put together a winning streak that began at fellow Play-Off chasers Reading. Two home victories over relegation-threatened sides Crawley and Shrewsbury were followed by one-goal wins against Leyton Orient and Barnsley, leaving Dave Challinor’s side seven points inside the top six.
Wigan are marooned in mid-table, with a healthy seven-point gap to the bottom four. The Latics have played the fewest games in the division though (28), but their form has been very inconsistent in recent times. Losses against Wrexham and Birmingham over the New Year were hardly a surprise, before they progressed in the FA Cup after defeating divisional rivals Mansfield Town.
Consecutive 2-1 scorelines saw Shaun Maloney’s side beat Stevenage but disappointingly fall to defeat at home to Burton Albion. The topsy-turvy form continued as a comfortable win over Bristol Rovers was followed by a loss at Peterborough United, another side struggling in the third tier. February was opened with a first draw since before the Christmas period, James Collins rescuing a point for Lincoln City after Jonny Smith had given the home side the lead. Smith was again on the scoresheet last weekend, but two from Rodrigo Muniz saw Premier League Fulham overcome the Latics in the FA Cup 4th Round.
Wigan have by far the superior record in this meeting, victorious in fifteen of the 27 games between the two sides. Fixtures though have been scarce between them, only playing four times since the turn of the decade. The Latics are unbeaten since losing an EFL Trophy tie in 1993, winning the most recent tie in that competition in 2023. But in the reverse encounter, the clubs played out a goalless draw at Edgeley Park.
