Leeds United look poised to make a summer move for loanee Joe Rothwell after reports that parent club Bournemouth would be “open” to the idea.
The 30-year-old was loaned to Elland Road at the start of the season and has already played 32 games for Daniel Farke’s side, becoming a key part of their promotion push this season.
Negotiations Set For Summer
Previous reports from TeamTalk on Rothwell’s future have put his valuation by Bournemouth in the region of £7.5 million. Journalist Graeme Bailey has since corroborated those links when speaking to Leeds United News.
“They are open to the idea. What I got back from Bournemouth, (the fee is around) that ballpark but possibly even less would get him.
“There is an interest there but both clubs will talk at the end of the season, nothing has happened yet.”
Bailey had previously told the same outlet that in order for Leeds to complete a permanent move for Rothwell, they would need to achieve promotion back to the Premier League. Fellow loanee Manor Solomon’s future at Tottenham is also in the air, prompting rumours that he mat also make a switch to Elland Road should The Whites achieve promotion.
Writer’s View
It seems like Leeds United are impressed enough with Joe Rothwell to consider a permanent switch for their midfielder. He has been that consistent rock in the middle of the pitch whilst his partner has changed with injuries for Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu when the Welshman played further forward. With the way Andoni Iraola’s side are playing in the top flight, Rothwell would likely not be in their future plans and if so Leeds may get their man at a price lower than the £7.5 million value reported by TeamTalk.
Manor Solomon should also be a figure of interest should The Whites go up this season but it may not be as clear-cut as a move for Rothwell. His contract at Tottenham expires in 2028 and with Heung-Min Son not getting any younger, keeping the Israeli around beyond this season is probably in Spurs’ best interest.
