Our Three Predictions For Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry City

  • First Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday To Win – 13/10
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 18/25
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10

First Prediction For Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry City – Sheffield Wednesday To Win – 13/10

This should be a fascinating encounter between two teams that currently find themselves on the fringes of the play-offs. Coventry City temporarily moved into eighth earlier this week with a 1-0 home win over Queens Park Rangers. However, Sheffield Wednesday leapfrogged the Sky Blues with an identical scoreline away at Swansea City, with a victory for Bristol City moving Frank Lampard’s side back down to 10th.

Still, there is just one point between the pair and it could be home advantage that plays a major role here. The Owls are unbeaten in five league fixtures at Hillsborough and will be looking to build on their excellent three points in Wales on Wednesday night. Coventry are the team in slightly better form at the moment, although they have won just two of their last six away games.

Second Prediction For Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry City – Both Teams To Score – 18/25

Only league leaders Leeds United have stopped both Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry scoring since the turn of the year, whilst the pair played out a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup third round last month before the Sky Blues sealed a penalty shootout victory at the CBS Arena. The tight nature of the Championship means that the play-off places are well within their graps, which could make for an open encounter at Hillsborough.

This is a fixture which traditionally produces goals, with their last five meetings all seeing both teams score. The reverse league clash this season finished 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday.

Third Prediction For Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry City – Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10

Seven of Sheffield Wednesday’s last 10 Championship fixtures have produced at least three goals, a run which includes three at Hillsborough. Danny Rohl will be fully expecting a rejuvenated Coventry to test his back line, which is likely to mean that the Owls will need to score at least twice to secure the three points.

Coventry haven’t conceded a lot of goals as of late, meaning their games have been low scoring affairs. However, four of their last six have been played at the CBS Arena and they will face a sterner test against the Owls. With the Sky Blues in a run of good form in front of goal though, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a high-scoring encounter here.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Sheffield Wednesday’s form has been rather inconsistent since the turn of the year. They did return to winning ways on Wednesday against Swansea when Michael Smith’s solitary goals secured the three points. That followed a 2-1 defeat at fellow play-off chasers West Bromwich Albion, whilst a 1-1 home draw against relegation threatened Luton Town at the beginning of the month was a bit of a disappointment. Despite their lofty position, Danny Rohl’s side have won just three of eight league fixtures this year.

Coventry have been nothing short of excellent since the appointment of Frank Lampard at the end of November. After suffering a slow start, the former England international has transformed the team into one of the most in-form in the division. They have lost just one of their last six Championship fixtures, winning five. That solitary defeat came at the hands of Leeds United, the team sitting top of the table. They did crash out of the FA Cup last weekend though, losing 4-1 against Premier League outfit Ipswich Town.

There have been plenty of meetings in recent years between the two teams. It’s been just a month since the last one when Coventry needed penalties to seal a place in the FA Cup fourth round after they played out a 1-1 draw at the CBS Arena. The Owls won the last league meeting in October when goals from Djeidi Gassama and Shea Charles helped clinch a 2-1 victory. Coventry did win on their previous league visit to Hillsborough last January, which also finished 2-1.
