Two Championship teams going in opposite directions face off as bottom-of-the-league Luton Town hosts promotion-chasing Sheffield United, in a game that looks like a foregone conclusion, but in this league anything can happen.
Our Three Predictions For Luton Town v Sheffield United
- Prediction 1 – Sheffield United To Win – 13/10
- Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20
- Prediction 3 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 23/20
First Prediction For Luton Town v Sheffield United – Sheffield United To Win – 13/10
This match, on paper looks every part a win for the travelling Blades, but as we know games are not won on paper. Even so, this does present a huge mismatch in current form, and if United do not leave this game at 5pm without maximum points it would raise plenty of eyebrows. Luton Town are enduring the worst post Premier League hangover in recent memory, the only thing they have going is that their home form is not as bad as it is away. They have not won in their last three home games, an d not since December 20. In those three defeats they have not scored. Sheffield are firmly in the automatic promotion chase and keeping pace with their rivals, Three straight away wins, scoring five times along the way, means that this does look like another bleak day for the Hatters supporters.
Second Prediction For Luton Town v Sheffield United – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20
As bad as Luton are currently, they do manage to keep the scoreboard ticking over, with 30 goals in their 31 games overall, and at 18 goals from 15 at home they could get on the scoresheet again in this game, despite United only shipping 13 so far on their travels. The Blades are no starngers in front of goal though and with Luton’s leaky defence – 51 conceded overall – they should add to their 46 in total, of which 22 of those have been scored on the road. United have scored six in their last three and it is hard not to see them at least getting to that average, if not more, making this a tidy bet.
Third Prediction For Luton Town v Sheffield United – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 23/20
On the goal scoring trail again and Sheffield United do look a good bet to get at least their average in the best three games of two, and overall they are hitting the net regularly. After a rocky patch over the Christmas and New Year, United have got back into their goalscoring groove, and away from home they have not drawn a blank since October 23, a run of 10 games where they have scored 17 times. Luton have not score at home in their last three, but before then had scored in every game at home this season, which shows they still have some spirit in them, despite their league placing.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
Matt Bloomfield’s Luton Town are not cut adrift at the bottom of the Championship, but they have finally slipped to the very bottom of the table, due to their own poor form, and he rise of Plymouth Argyle in particular in the relegation fight. And that is exactly what tis now is. For a long time is was a case of when Luton would pull themselves away from the bottom third, but instead they kept freefalling. Carlton Morris will be wanting to add to his team leading seven goals, and he does have plenty of help around him with Jordan Clark’s three goals and three assists from midfield. At the back they still have the big presence of Mark McGuiness, who matches Clark’s output in front of goal, but it is his defensive prowess that must come to the fore, to help an otherwise makeshift back line that is still trying to find its right blend.
Sheffield United were always going to be thereabouts in the promotion chase, and now they have settled into a rhythm that matches their challengers, Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland. It will be two of those four teams that gain the top two automatic promotion spots. Chris Wilder has been there and done it on this stage, so knows what it takes to get over the line. Tricky games like this one will mean there is no chance for complacency. Gustavo Hamer has seven goals and five assists, as the Dutchman leads the way for the Blades, and he has a capable foil by his side in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi who has added a further six goals and two assists. At the back they are marshalled well by Harrison Burrows – who also has five goals – and 31-year-old Jack Robinson.
