Sunderland Boss Provides Injury Boost

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has issued an encouraging injury update on three players as they continue their promotion push.

The Frenchman confirmed that midfielder Alan Browne and attackers Tommy Watson and Romaine Mundle should all return to the fold over the next two weeks, with the Black Cats looking to continue their excellent form of late.

Encouraging Injury News

The news of these players returning will be welcome for Sunderland fans, with Le Bris confirming  their recoveries ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Watford in the Championship.

In his pre-match press conference he said,“Alan Browne is now back in full training. We hope to have Romaine back on the grass at the end of this week and Tommy next week.”

All three have been out for fairly extended periods of time, so their returns will be a boost to the squad. Browne and Mundle have both been out since November, while Watson picked up his injury in mid-December. The latter two have been especially missed, leaving Sunderland with no natural left-winger for the last month or so.

A Strong January

The return of these three players comes as further good news after a fantastic January on Wearside, both on and off the pitch. The North East side won an impressive eleven points to keep up with the promotion pack as they look to return to the top-flight for the first time since 2017.

January was also strong on the recruitment front, with striker Wilson Isidor’s loan being converted to a permanent deal, and midfielder Enzo Le Fee signing on an initial loan and already showing signs of magic. Sunderland fans will be hoping February continues in the same vein, and the return of injured players will only help their squad depth as the business end of the season approaches.

Writer’s View

This is fantastic news for Sunderland. They have done brilliantly recently and players returning will only add to competition for players and improve the mentality at the club. It will allow for more rotation with games coming thick and fast, and all the squad will need to play their part if promotion is to be achieved. Spirits are high at The Stadium of Light, and these players coming back will only improve the mood.
