Our Three Predictions for Swindon Town vs Port Vale

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 21/10
  • Second Prediction: Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Harry Smith to score at any time – 12/5

First Prediction for Swindon Town vs Port Vale – Match to end in a draw – 21/10

Both sides come into this game in good form. Despite the off-the-pitch issues at Swindon, manager Ian Holloway has taken his side from a relegation-threatened side to a side who are now comfortably midtable and 14 points off relegation. They are unbeaten in their last five league matches, with their only recent loss coming at the hands of Birmingham City in the EFL Trophy. As for Port Vale, despite suffering a wobble over the festive period, they have got back to form and are also unbeaten in their last five league fixtures. Like their opponents, their only recent loss has come at the hands of a League One opponent, this time Wrexham in the EFL Trophy. With both sides on such good form, it would not be surprising to see this match end level after 90 minutes as both sides look to extend their unbeaten runs to six without defeat.

Second Prediction for Swindon Town vs Port Vale – Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 17/20

Despite the recent run of results, one thing the hosts need to improve on desperately is their defensive record. In 30 games, they have conceded 44 goals, which is unsurprisingly one of the worst in the division. However, one redeeming factor is that they also score goals, only scoring one less than they’ve conceded. On average per match, the Robins score 1.43 goals per match but concede 1.47 goals per match. Although Vale have a better defensive record and a worse goalscoring record, they still on average concede and score over one goal a game. Overall, in the league, Darren Moore’s side have conceded 29 goals and scored 35 goals. Although this match might be a tightly contested affair, based on both sides’ scoring and defensive records, it might be a high-scoring one.

Third Prediction for Swindon Town vs Port Vale – Harry Smith to score at any time – 12/5

Perhaps an unlikely hero for Swindon this season, Harry Smith is the club’s top-scorer. The 29-year-old rejoined the club from Sutton United in the summer and has since provided 18 goals and assists in all competitions. Smith has already equalled his tally from last season, where he provided 18 goal contributions in 42 games in a struggling Sutton side, who ultimately were condemned to relegation from the EFL. The Englishman has scored four goals in his last five games, and will certainly be looking to add to his tally against Port Vale on the weekend.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both teams come into this one unbeaten in their last five league games respectively. However, both sides have also experienced midweek defeats recently at the hands of opponents higher up the league pyramid in the EFL Trophy. The hosts have won four of their last four games, whilst the visitors won last weekend against Accrington Stanley.

With the fight for the promotion places so tight, depending on other results Moore’s side could climb the table to a potential fourth place to further cement their place in the play-off spots. Salford City are on Vale’s tale, however, and if they were to lose, Salford could easily overtake Port Vale on goal difference. Swindon could move a further three points away from the dreaded relegation zone and could climb to as high as 10th depending on the results of other sides.

Since 2011, these sides have met each other 21 times in multiple competitions, including both League One, League Two and in the play-offs. The Robins have won the majority of ties, winning 13, with their opponents only winning six and the other two results ending level after 90 minutes.
