- Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 11/25
First Prediction For Birmingham City vs Newcastle United – Newcastle United To Win – 11/25
Birmingham have been in formidable form this season and look well on course to storm their way to the League One title. They enter this game in the midst of an 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions and having secured their place in the EFL Trophy semi final earlier this week with a 1-0 win over Stevenage. However, they face a sterner task here against a team challenging in the upper reaches of the Premier League and aiming for a place in next season’s Champions League.
Newcastle are expected to rotate against their third tier opposition but still possess a host of top quality talent. At the time of writing, they are one step away from securing a place in the Carabao Cup final having won 2-0 in the semi final first leg against Arsenal. Eddie Howe is desperate to end the Magpies’ 70 year wait for a major honour and progress in the FA Cup is expected.
Second Prediction For Birmingham City vs Newcastle United – Both Teams To Score – 57/100
Birmingham have been rock solid at St Andrew’s this season. Only Blackpool and Fulham have stopped them scoring in front of their own supporters and, like their opponents, they also possess multi million pound attacking options. Their 0-0 draw with Blackpool at the end of December is the only time they have failed to score since losing to Charlton Athletic in October. Whilst their defensive record is strong, keeping a clean sheet against one of the best teams in the country is a big ask.
Eddie Howe’s side have also been in excellent goalscoring form. The have scored in their last 15 outings in all competitions (at the time of writing), whilst only West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton have stopped them finding the net. The manager may be tempted to give top scorer Alexander Isak a starting berth in an attempt to kill the game off early, whilst he will also be wary of the threat that the likes of Jay Stansfield.
Third Prediction For Birmingham City vs Newcastle United – Over 2.5 Goals – 11/25
Despite the two division gap between the two, Birmingham will head into this game full of confidence. They will be cheered on by a raucous home crowd and an early goal could set this up to be one of the ties of the round. The Blues aren’t used to drawing blanks, meaning Newcastle will need to be at their best.
Ultimately though, it would still be a major shock to see Chris Davies’ side secure another win. The Magpies may need to score at least twice to seal a place in the fifth round. League Two’s Bromley did score early at St James’ Park in the third round before the Premier League outfit fought back, and their last five games in all competitions have seen at least three goals.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Birmingham have enjoyed life in League One and have well and truly put the heartbreak of last season’s relegation behind them. A late Jay Stansfield goal against Stevenage was enough to earn a place in the EFL Trophy semi final on Tuesday night. This followed two big wins over Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United, the two teams that they dropped out the Championship with last May. Having battled with Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham for the top spot during the first few months of the campaign, they have now started to surge clear. They are currently four points better off than their nearest rival at the summit, whilst also possessing two games in hand. Birmingham earned a place in the fourth round by beating Sutton United, Blackpool and Lincoln City.
Newcastle’s league form has stuttered somewhat over the past couple of weeks. Their 2-1 defeat against Fulham at the weekend was their second loss in three games, although they do still sit sixth in the Premier League and just two points off the top four. They are yet to lose in cup competitions this season (at the time of writing). A 3-1 victory over Bromley in the third round secured their spot in the next round.
There haven’t been many meetings between the two teams in recent time. Their last clash came back in 2017 when Newcastle were in the Championship, which finished 0-0. That stalemate was the last of four fixtures featuring the pair that season, with the two also meeting in the FA Cup. They played out a 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s in the third round before Newcastle won the replay 3-1 at St James’ Park. Birmingham’s last victory in this fixture was in 2007 when they won 5-1, also in the FA Cup.
