Exeter City Confirm Non-League Capture

Exeter City have announced the signing of Andrew Oluwabori for an undisclosed fee from National League side FC Halifax Town.

He becomes the second player in as many January windows to make the switch from The Shay to St. James’ Park, following in the tracks of Millenic Alli who has since gone onto Luton Town.

Caldwell Signs Forward

Oluwabori has played across the front three for the West Yorkshire club since signing from Peterborough United in 2023. He played 73 times, scoring 11 goals and has made 24 appearances for Chris Millington’s side in the league this season.

Speaking upon the completion of the deal, Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell said:

“Andrew is someone who is a replacement for Millenic Alli, but he is a slightly different type of player. He plays anywhere across the front three as wide or a number 10, and we think he can evolve into a number nine.”

“He is someone who is really exciting as a young player with potential, that has pace and power, and he has scored goals at National League level. We believe with the right coaching he can be as good, if not better, than what Milli was for us.”

Writer’s View

Exeter City were looking to find a replacement for Millenic Alli and where better to look than the club they signed their former player from? Halifax have always been a perennial contender in the National League and seems to find some real gems in non-league. Like with the transfer for Alli, it will be a great cash injection for The Shaymen. Andrew Oluwabori now gets to prove himself at a much higher level and has a versatility which could become vital with injuries. He should be used as a winger mainly but could, as Gary Caldwell hopes, become a striker with the right development.
