Chesterfield Face Battle To Keep Star Man

Stockport County are monitoring Chesterfield winger Armando Dobra ahead of the January transfer deadline, according to reporter Andy Giddings.

The 23-year-old has been a standout performer for Chesterfield this season, contributing 10 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions. His form has not gone unnoticed, with League Two leaders Stockport identifying him as a potential signing to bolster their squad as they push for promotion to League One.

Chesterfield Unwilling to Sell

Despite Stockport’s interest, Chesterfield manager Paul Cook is determined to keep hold of his key players as they look to continue their strong campaign. With Dobra under contract until June 2026, the Spireites are under no financial pressure to sell him at this stage.

That stance could make it difficult for Stockport to secure his services unless they make an offer that Chesterfield simply cannot refuse. However, with the transfer window closing soon, time is running out for any deal to be completed.

Dobra’s Rise Through the Ranks

Born in England but eligible to represent Albania at international level, Dobra began his footballing journey with Ipswich Town. He progressed through their academy and made his senior debut in 2019, scoring in an EFL Cup match against Luton Town.

Despite flashes of talent, first-team opportunities at Ipswich were limited, leading to a loan spell at Colchester United in the 2021/22 season. During his time with the U’s, he gained valuable experience, but upon his return to Portman Road, he was released from his contract.

He then joined Chesterfield in 2022, signing a two-year deal, and quickly became an integral part of their squad. In his first season, he finished as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, despite suffering injuries that sidelined him for parts of the campaign.

His attacking ability, versatility, and eye for goal have made him one of the most sought-after players in the lower divisions, with multiple clubs now tracking his progress.

What’s Next?

With Stockport pushing for automatic promotion, manager Dave Challinor may view Dobra as the perfect addition to strengthen his squad’s attacking options. However, Chesterfield’s reluctance to sell could make negotiations difficult, and Stockport may need to turn their attention elsewhere if a deal cannot be reached before Monday’s deadline.

Writer’s View

Stockport’s pursuit of Dobra makes perfect sense given his ability to score and create from the wing. His form for Chesterfield has proven he can be a game-changer at this level, and he would be a valuable asset for a side chasing promotion.
