Rumours that Charlton Athletic are interested in Portsmouth midfielder Owen Moxon have been described as ‘completely false’ by journalist Richard Cawley.
The Addicks have been in superb form over the past couple of months, losing just one of their last nine League One fixtures. This has seen them move up to 10th, although they are just two points off the play-off places.
This has led to speculation that manager Nathan Jones will be looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes next week, with links to Moxon having been doing the rounds.
The 27-year-old only signed for Portsmouth less than a year ago, penning a three-and-a-half-year deal from Carlisle United. However, he has struggled for game time since Pompey’s promotion to the Championship, making just two league starts.
Lack Of Game Time
Moxon has found himself on the fringes of the Portsmouth squad but has been consistently praised by John Mousinho. After making just seven substitute appearances, he was finally handed his first start of the campaign against Norwich City in October. Afterwards, the head coach was full of praise, calling him ‘superb’.
Despite his excellent performance, he was back on familiar surroundings on the bench the following game and has since featured just four more times in the league. He has also been an unused substitute in each of Portsmouth’s last four games.
‘Completely False’
This has understandably led to speculation that the midfielder could be set for a temporary spell in League One before the transfer window closes on February 3rd. Charlton have been named as one potential destination, although those links have since been dismissed by journalist Richard Cawley.
No contact from Preston for Thierry Small.
And the rumours about a #cafc move for Portsmouth’s Owen Moxon are completely false.

Writer’s View
This is undoubtedly a frustrating time for Moxon. He has proved himself as someone who is capable of playing to a high standard at League One level, but he has not been given an ample opportunity to showcase that in the Championship. Mousinho has always been full of praise for the midfielder’s attitude, although it does feel like he needs a spell away to gain some first team minutes. Charlton could do much worse than adding the former Carlisle man to their ranks but as things stand, the Addicks are turning a blind eye.
