Portsmouth will be looking to improve further their great current home form against a somewhat inconsistent Stoke City. Both teams are eager for points as they battle the drop zone fears in this exciting Championship fixture on the south coast.
Our Three Predictions For Portsmouth v Stoke City
- Prediction 1 – Portsmouth To Win – 27/20
- Prediction 2 – Match To End In A Draw – 9/4
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/25
First Prediction For Portsmouth v Stoke City – Portsmouth To Win – 27/20
Portsmouth have seen a dramatic change in their form but are still very much in the thick of the relegation scrap. The main difference has been an upturn in their home results, and that gives them a big advantage in this game. Pompey had a great festive period at home, and are on a three game win streak currently, outscoring opponents 10-2. Their latest victory an impressive 2-1 win against promotion chasing Middlesbrough. Stoke City have picked up form on the road and are also unbeaten in their last three, but with only two wins on their travels from 13 games this may be a long day for The Potters.
Second Prediction For Portsmouth v Stoke City – Match To End In A Draw – 9/4
Stoke have draw four games away from home, and this could be their best bet of getting a result on the south coast. They have drawn their last two outings away, against Burnley and West Bromwich Albion, two teams chasing dreams of Premier League promotion. Throw in a home draw against Plymouth Argyle then it is three consecutive league stalemates. Portsmouth’s last home draw was on December 10, a goalless game against Norwich City, and have become hard to beat at Fratton Park, only three losses from their 12 games at home, four of those have ended level on the scoreboard.
Third Prediction For Portsmouth v Stoke City – Both Teams To Score – 17/25
Portsmouth have found their scoring boots of late and are hitting the back of the net with more regularity. Their last three home matches have seen them score 10 goals, and overall they have scored 32 in 26 Championship fixtures. Stoke City are a little more goal shy and actually score less than a goal a game – 25 from 27 matches. Away from home they have only netted seven times, but have scored three in their last two road games, albeit two of those was in an impressive win at Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
John Mousinho has got his Portsmouth side in a position where they will believe they can stay up, although he will be fully aware that there is still lots to do in that department. Their away form is still a huge concern but at home Portsmouth will feel they can trouble all teams in the Championship. Crowd favourite Colby Bishop still leads the line, and although he only has three goals so far this season, remains a real threat. Top scorer is Callum Lang, with nine. Freddie Potts and Josh Murphy are proving a handful from midfield with six goals and eight assists between them.
Mark Robins is still finding his feet at Stoke City, and his transition has not been plain sailing to start. He will be pleased though with a current run of form that sees his side unbeaten in five across all competitions, including the recent scalp of Sunderland in the league, backed up by a win against the same team in the FA Cup. They will have to improve in front of goal though if they are to start climbing the table. Young Irish striker Andrew Moran has three goals to his name, and now leads the line after Leicester City recalled top scorer Thomas Cannon. 19-year-old Lewis Koumas should once again step in. They have kept things relatively tight at the back and Swedish goalkeeper Viktor Johansson has been ever present so far to give confidence to a defence that has only conceded once in the last four Championship matches.
