Gillingham fell to a 0-1 defeat at home to promotion-chasing Doncaster Rovers at the weekend, with Luke Molyneux’s 33rd-minute strike enough to secure three points for the visitors.
Whilst The Gills did force opposition goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe into action on a few occasions, they were unable to stop their unwanted run of five league matches without a win.
John Coleman’s View
Manager John Coleman seemed happy with his side’s performance when talking to club media, highlighting the fact that they went toe-to-toe with one of the best sides in the division:
“I thought we were fantastic for the first 25 minutes. Unfortunately, we didn’t score in that period, and the big problem that we have got, and has historically plagued Gillingham for two years, is the lack of goals. For all that pressure, did we make enough chances? Probably not. We made a couple of good chances that we would have liked to have taken.”
“Whatever the scoreline was, I still think that there is room for improvement. I know that there is room for improvement, and we will continue to work on it. I can see the change in the ethos of how I want us to play was very similar to successful sides that I have had in the past.”

Next Up For Gillingham
Gillingham have a very winnable fixture at struggling Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, before playing Grimsby Town and Notts County next week.
Coleman wants his side to attack more and score more goals, but also was quick to issue an injury update on key attacking players at this moment in time:
“I’d like to see us attack more. I’d like to see us go forward a bit more, and I’d like to see us eliminate going back to the keeper a lot more. We have got to cross out the elementary mistakes. If you go through the last 12 goals that we have conceded as a club, probably nine of them are down to individual errors, so that’s something we have got to try and eliminate as well. Players don’t do it on purpose.”
“Josh went for a scan yesterday, and we will await the results of that. Marcus might be about six weeks.”
Writers View
Gillingham started the season so well, but now have one of the worst attacking records in the league, so they really need to fix that if they want to have a positive end to the season.
Maybe the transfer window could see the addition of some more threat in the final third.
