Barrow Boss Opens Up On ‘Tough Decisions’

Barrow AFC head coach Stephen Clemence has admitted it was a challenging decision to cut short the loan spells of Andy Dallas and Neo Eccleston.

The pair have returned to their parent clubs, Barnsley and Huddersfield Town, respectively, as the Bluebirds reshape their squad.

A Tough Call

Clemence expressed his appreciation for Dallas and Eccleston’s contributions but acknowledged the need to balance squad changes with financial realities. The Bluebirds have already added Kyle Cameron, Isaac Fletcher, Aaron Pressley, and Leo Duru this window, necessitating adjustments within the budget.

“Obviously the two boys went back to their clubs on Wednesday, and we wish them both well for the future. It is always a tough decision to make to send players back, and I’d like to thank them for all their hard work and endeavour while they were with us.”

The Barrow boss remains optimistic about further additions. “We are all working very hard to do some more business, so we have to just watch this space and see what happens, but we are hopeful that we aren’t done yet,” he added.

Impressions of Dallas and Eccleston

Clemence praised both players’ attitudes and efforts during their time at the club, highlighting specific moments that left a positive impression.

“I thought Neo started ever so well. He brought a smile to everyone’s faces, and I think we all remember the goal he scored against Harrogate and the celebration to go with it. He’s done ever so well with certain aspects of his game, but the physicality of League Two is something he is going to get better at.”

Regarding Dallas, Clemence noted his improvement over the last few weeks. “I felt Andy really came to the party in the last sort of six or seven weeks, although he probably had a slow start with us. He was a player low on confidence when he arrived but worked hard to turn that around,” he explained.

Both players are expected to continue developing their careers, with Clemence confident they have the potential to make an impact elsewhere.

Writer’s View

Decisions like these highlight the balancing act managers face in January. Clemence’s acknowledgment of both players’ growth reflects Barrow’s commitment to player development, even as they make room for new arrivals. For Dallas and Eccleston, this move could be the next step in realising their potential, while Barrow continue to fine-tune their squad for League Two success.
