Lincoln City Boss Hints At Strong EFL Trophy Lineup

Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala has hinted that he could go full strength in the Vertu Trophy clash against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow night.

The Imps will enter the game in a run of dreadful form, which has seen them win just one of their last 12 League One fixtures. They also saw their FA Cup campaign come to an end on Saturday when they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

Skubala revealed after the game against the Blues that he was pleased with his team’s second half performance, where Lincoln dominated. The difference between the two side’s ultimately came down to the quality in the attacking third. The East Midlands-based outfit saw the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri and Freddie Draper miss good chances, whereas Birmingham secured the win thanks to a stunning strike from Lyndon Dykes.

Skubala Looking For Cup Progress

Skubala has hinted that he will be looking to field a strong lineup for the visit of Bolton tomorrow night. The 42-year-old may feel his team aren’t producing the results their performances deserve, so could resist the urge to tinker. Speaking to official club media, he said:

“We will put a team out that can challenge and capable of getting through to the next round of this cup. Bolton are a really good outfit and they have got strength in depth and they are going to try and push to do what they did last season, so they will have the strength in depth to change.

“When teams get to this part of the competition, everyone wants to get through because you are closer to Wembley, and it is important to the club. We need to keep focus and do what we did in the second half against Birmingham and keep those performances going.

“We have tweaked and changed at times, but we want to get back to how we want to look and how aggressive we want to be with and without the ball, and at times that’s not always pretty.

“We thought we needed to move in the right direction, but we never really changed. If we follow the process and we work hard on the training pitch, which we do every day, the results will come.”

Some sections of the Lincoln support are starting to get itchy feet when it comes to recent results. Although the EFL Trophy is far from a priority, progress into the quarter final could give the Imps some momentum heading into this weekend’s clash against Northampton Town. Skubala may feel that this is a great time to play Bolton. Despite losing to the Trotters last month, Ian Evatt is under huge pressure following their 3-1 defeat against Rotherham United at the weekend.
