Our Three Predictions For Crystal Palace vs Stockport County
- First Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 18/25
- Second Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 21/50
- Third Prediction: Crystal Palace To Win – 7/25
First Prediction For Crystal Palace vs Stockport County – Both Teams To Score – 18/25
Stockport head into this game as huge underdogs against a team two divisions above them. However, this is the FA Cup, a competition built on a reputation of David overcoming Goliath. The Hatters have suffered a drop in form in recent weeks which has seem them slip out of the play-off positions in League One. They’ve also had to contend with the loss of talisman Louie Barry, who returned to parent club Aston Villa ahead of a potential loan to the Championship. Despite that, although they’re winless in their last four outings, they’ve only failed to score against three of the top four in the last three months.
Palace’s recent form has been good, losing just two of their last 10. They’ve kept just two clean sheets in this time though and are expected to rotate their starting lineup. As a result, Stockport will feel they have more than enough firing power to unlock the Eagle’s defence.
Second Prediction For Crystal Palace vs Stockport County – Over 2.5 Goals – 21/50
Looking at Stockport’s previous cup form this season, only two of seven games has failed to produce three or more goals. That was against Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy in a game which was effectively a dead rubber, whereas their FA Cup first round clash against Forest Green Rovers finished 1-1 before Dave Challinor’s side won it in extra time. They did face higher league opposition in the Carabao Cup in August, with Blackburn Rovers recording a 6-1 win at Edgeley Park.
Taking Palace’s recent form into account, you have to feel that they will score at least twice. All four of their cup games this season, in the Carabao Cup, have produced at least three goals. This included two wins over lower league opposition, beating Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers 4-0 and 2-1 respectively.
Third Prediction For Crystal Palace vs Stockport County – Crystal Palace To Win – 7/25
As expected, the odds are low for this outcome. It’s hard to look past a win for the Premier League side though, especially with Stockport struggling as of late. Palace picked up a hard fought 1-1 draw with Chelsea last weekend to extend their unbeaten run to three. Title challengers Arsenal are the only team to inflict defeat on Oliver Gasner’s team in their last nine and they’ll be confident of extending that run here.
Stockport are now winless in four and seem to be struggling since the loss of Louie Barry. They also haven’t won on the road since beating Burton Albion in November, a team that currently sit bottom of League One.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Crystal Palace started the season slowly and had to wait until late October to pick up their first Premier League win. This saw them languishing in the relegation places, but things have improved since. That win against Tottenham Hotspur kickstarted an upturn of results and they have lost just twice in their last 12. However, half of those games have resulted in draws.
Stockport enjoyed an excellent first half of the campaign after returning to League One for the first time since 2010. They’ve had incredible success over the past few years, raising from the National League North back to the third tier. After briefly moving up to third in October, recent results have slipped, and they have failed to win since beating Peterborough United before Christmas. They did pick up a good point against Birmingham City on New Year’s Day but followed that three days later with a 2-1 home defeat against Mansfield Town.
This is the first meeting between the two teams in 23 years, when they pair where in Division 1 (now the Championship). Palace have won the last three, with Stockport’s last victory against the Eagles coming in 1973.
