Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Cheltenham Town defeated Crewe Alexandra on Boxing Day to extend their unbeaten League Two run to six games and to chalk up a second win in three.

That victory leaves Michael Flynn’s side 14th in League Two with 30 points from 22 matches, and just four points off the playoff places.

Joel Colwill scored his fourth and fifth goals of the campaign as the Robins overcame fourth place Crewe at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

Visitors Notts County made it back to back wins on Boxing Day with an impressive victory at MK Dons. County had beaten Bradford City 3-0 at Meadow Lane last Saturday to end a run of five league games without a win.

The Magpies currently occupy the final playoff spot, sitting above Grimsby Town on goal difference but are just two points behind third place Doncaster Rovers in the automatic promotion places.

George Abbott scored his first goal of the season from a Dan Crowley assist before Crowley got his fourth goal of the season to secure the three points.

Notts County hold the upper hand over the six most recent meetings, recording three victories to Cheltenham Town’s two. The last meeting between these sides was almost five years ago in a League Two encounter that saw Cheltenham come out with a 4-1 win. The Robins raced into a three goal lead thanks to William Boyle, a Luke Varney penalty and Billy Waters before Kane Hemmings pulled one back from the spot for The Magpies. Tyrone Barnett put the gloss on the scoreline for Cheltenham with just two minutes to go. At the end of the season, Notts County would lose their Football League status.

The season’s earlier fixture had also ended in a commanding win for Cheltenham, as the Robins ran out 3-0 winners thanks to some familiar faces in Tyrone Barnett and a Luke Varney brace.

The last time Notts County came out on the right side of the result was back in 2017, a season in which they made the playoffs a year before relegation. The Magpies took the lead through Jorge Grant before Carl Winchester sent the sides in level at half time. Grant’s second was swiftly followed by a Shaun Brisley strike to settle the game in County’s favour.
