Queens Park Rangers Boss Hints At January Business

Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes has hinted that he will look to strengthen the squad once the transfer window reopens next week.

The Spaniard has earned a big reputation at Loftus Road since taking over from Gareth Ainsworth in October 2023. He joined the club when relegation to League One looked certain, but pulled off the great escape with a run of just three defeats in their last 14 games.

That looked to have been a flash in the pan during the early stages of this season. The Hoops won just one of their opening 16 fixtures, earning them a spot at the bottom of the table. However, they have since recovered with an unbeaten run of seven, winning four, to move up to 14th.

Cifuentes ‘Happy’ But Hints At New Arrivals

With the club now in a more comfortable position, Cifuentes has admitted that he is happy with his current crop of players, although has been in discussions regarding potential transfer business. Speaking to West London Sportthe 42-year-old said:

“The club is always ready to improve in all areas. I am sure about that. We have daily discussions.

“Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks, but I’m very happy with my players.

“We try to improve every day, not looking at just at the market.”

QPR face two tough away games over the next few days. They take on Swansea City this afternoon before making the trip to Norwich City on Sunday.

There were concerns that QPR could be pulled into another relegation scrap following their form over the opening few months of the campaign. They couldn’t buy a win up until the end of November, which did lead to speculation that Cifuentes could be replaces. The Spaniard’s escapades from last season bought him some time though, which has paid off in dividends in recent weeks.

However, he isn’t resting on his laurels. Despite now sitting in 14th, the Hoops are only seven points above the drop zone. With the fixtures coming thick and fast over the next couple of weeks, that situation can change at the drop of the hat. It looks as if work is already being done to improve the squad next month and avoid being dragged back into the mix.
