Phil Parkinson Praises ‘Relentless’ Wrexham

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson believes his side have the mentality to push for a third successive promotion.

The Red Dragons have enjoyed incredible success since the takeover of the club by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They have made their way into League One by winning the National League in 2023 before a second-placed finish in League Two last season saw them return to the third tier for the first time since 2005.

The Championship is now the aim, and the Welsh outfit are well in the running. They currently sit third in the table, three points behind leaders Birmingham City.

Wrexham have lost just three games all season, but their home form has been magnificent. They are yet to lose at the STōK Cae Ras and face two home games over the next three days. Blackpool provide the opposition later today before Wigan Athletic make the journey to North Wales on Sunday.

Parkinson Believes Wrexham Have The Right Mentality

With 25 games remaining, Wrexham have put themselves in the perfect position to achieve yet more success. Speaking to The Leader ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Blackpool, manager Parkinson believes his team are relentless.

“I think as a group we have got a relentlessness about us.

“We have got to keep that relentless nature because if you want to be at the top of the division each year, you have got to be relentless every single game.

“There is no time to have a breather and not be focussed, and the relentlessness and mentality of the group is strong.”

Continuing, the 57-year-old urged his players to maintain the same mentality for the second half of the campaign:

“Managers in the Premier League talk about mentality, will to win and determination, and I feel we have got it. We have got to keep it there.”

Writer’s View

Wrexham were one of the favourites to challenge at the top end of League One this season and they haven’t disappointed. They may have dropped points in their last two outings, but both were on the road and a return to home soil this afternoon could see them return to winning ways. However, the festive period is unpredictable, and Blackpool will provide a tough opposition. They have Huddersfield Town breathing down their necks below them and it will be interesting to see if Parkinson’s words ring true during the business end of the season.
