Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Wrexham go into this Boxing Day fixture sitting third in League One, three points behind leaders Birmingham City but having played two games more than their promotion rivals.

Phil Parkinson’s side are unbeaten in their last six league matches and have only tasted defeat once in their previous 12 League One outings.

The Red Dragons have the best defence in the league, keeping 12 clean sheets and only conceding 0.7 goals per game on average. Wrexham have been excellent at the StoK Cae Ras this season, taking 29 points from a possible 33 and have scored 23 times in front of their own fans.

Steve Bruce leads his Blackpool side into battle in Wales hoping to resurrect a playoff push for The Tangerines. Bruce’s side have lost lost just once, to Bolton Wanderers, in their previous six league fixtures and have won three of the last four.

The Lancashire side have the fifth best away record in the division, taking 16 points from their 11 games on the road.

Blackpool hold the upper hand in the head to head between the sides and haven’t been on the end of a defeat to Wrexham since 2003. The last meeting between these two sides was way back in 2005 in an LDV Vans Trophy match at Bloomfield Road. The thrilling contest ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, with Wrexham’s Mark Jones scoring twice within a minute to turn the game in his side’s favour after an early Matthew Blinkhorn strike had put Blackpool ahead. Mark McGregor equalised for the home side to send the contest into an extra 30 minutes. Current Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson gave the Red Dragons the lead before Keith Southern and Scott Vernon settled the tie.

The last two league meetings came back in the 2004/05 season, with Blackpool completing the double over their Welsh opponents. Bloomfield Road played host to the first meeting that saw Blackpool run out 2-1 winners thanks to Peter Clarke and a Scott Taylor penalty. Wrexham’s last victory in the encounter came almost 21 years ago to the day on December 28th 2003 as they triumphed by fours goals to two at the Racecourse Ground. Two goals apiece for Chris Llewellyn and Hector Sam kept the three points in Wales despite Scott Taylor and Mike Flynn netting for the visitors.
