Bolton Wanderers Looking To Upset Promotion Rivals

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has told Wycombe Wanderers they will recall Aaron Morley from a season-long loan in January unless they make a ‘significant offer’.

The 24-year-old made the temporary switch to the Chairboys in August, where he has been an ever-present. He has earned the plaudits for his performances in the centre of the park and has played a major role in helping Wycombe’s surge up the League One table.

Matt Bloomfield’s side had been top of the table since the beginning of November. However, after drawing 0-0 with Bolton last Friday night, they surrendered their lead when Birmingham City took advantage with a 1-0 win over Crawley Town last night.

Morley was absent from the squad for the visit of the Trotters having been ineligible to play against his parent club. Despite that, his form this season hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Ian Evatt Looking For Early Recall

Bolton have been largely inconsistent this season and currently sit eighth in the table. They are level on points with sixth-placed Lincoln City and will be looking to push on with their promotion challenge in the New Year.

Morley could play a role in that yet, with Evatt confirming that he will recall the player unless Wycombe make a significant offer for his services. Speaking to The Bolton Newshe said:

“I was really clear with what our stance is. Aaron is our player and we are pleased has got what he needed to out of the loan.

“If they want to keep him, they need to make us a really significant offer. From our perspective, he just won’t stay there on loan. We will recall him and he will be part of our team and our squad unless they offer us an offer we think meets his valuation. Then, we can look at other things.

“For me, it is really clear that if they want to keep Aaron, a bit like we do – and we have to negotiate and pay for players’ quality. Aaron has been fantastic for them. I have told them our valuation and now it is down to them to either meet it or not.”

Bucks Free Press have reported this morning that Bolton’s valuation of the player stands at around £500,000.

Writer’s View

This is a bit of a blow for Wycombe, but Bolton’s stance is understandable. The Chairboys have surprised everyone with their form this season, and Morley has played a major role in that. With the Trotters harbouring promotion ambitions of their own, continuing to strengthen a team with the same aim would be nonsensical. However, should they receive the valuation they have set, this can be reinvested straight back into the team.
