Plymouth Argyle midfielder Adam Randell says his team will travel to Sheffield United tomorrow hoping to upset the odds and inflict a first home defeat of the season on the league leaders.
The Pilgrims will start the game in the bottom three of the Championship. They are now winless in their last five games, with Tuesday night’s defeat against Swansea City their third in succession.
It was only Plymouth’s second home defeat of the campaign and has increased the pressure on Wayne Rooney. However, with the division’s worst away record, the last place they will want to visit is Bramall Lane.
The Blades returned to the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 win over Millwall on Wednesday. They will be confident of retaining their spot in front of their own supporters, having picked up eight wins and a draw in their nine home games thus far.
Randell Targeting An Upset
Plymouth enter the game as massive underdogs. A Sheffield United win is widely seen as a formality, although Adam Randell says his team will travel north with only one thing in mind. Speaking to official club media, the 24-year-old said:
“As a team, they’re (Sheffield United) in great form, especially at home. They’ve got big names, big players, and it’s going to be a big challenge for us.
“We’re all going to be focused on making sure that we prepare right and go there trying to win the game.
“It’s definitely something that we want to go and do. We want to go and prove that we can play against the top teams. This will certainly be a big challenge for us, but it’s not a game that we’re going to shy away from at all.
“If we can get something out of this game, then that’ll definitely give us more confidence than we’ve already got.”
Writer’s View
The odds are heavily stacked against Plymouth and it’s hard to see them getting anything out of this game. Their confidence will have taken a knock on Tuesday when they lost for only the second time this season at Home Park. They have picked up just two points on the road in their 10 away outings thus far and despite Randell’s optimism, that is likely to extend to 11 games here.
