Colchester United striker Lyle Taylor has called on his teammates to maintain their high standards as they look to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
The U’s are in fine form, having secured four wins in their last six games and kept four successive clean sheets.
Focus on Consistency
Taylor, who scored twice in Colchester’s 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night, highlighted the importance of staying organised and disciplined to continue their positive momentum.
“We have to keep doing it, because this league is relentless and we’re now coming up to the business time of the season. We want to keep this run going, so we have to keep doing the things that have gained us this success and then with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, we can continue it.”
The 34-year-old emphasised the team’s improved organisation, which has led to critical turnovers and better chances in recent matches. “You can see the chances that we’re creating from nicking the ball and being in a good shape,” Taylor noted.
Building Momentum
Colchester’s unbeaten run has instilled confidence in the squad, but Taylor stressed the need to focus on performances rather than results. “If we can take control of the things that we can control, that’s what we have to do and results will invariably follow,” he said.
Taylor also praised the collective effort of the team, stating, “It’s a team effort – we score goals as a team and we concede goals as a team. It’s about cutting out the mistakes and being solid.”
Personal Milestones
The striker’s brace against his former club AFC Wimbledon took his goal tally for the season to seven. Reflecting on his performance, Taylor said, “I was absolutely buzzing to get on the scoresheet twice and that we won the game and we’re in the draw – that’s the most important thing.”
As Colchester prepare for their home clash against Newport County, Taylor and the team are determined to build on their recent success. With a combination of hard work, organisation, and team unity, the U’s aim to keep their unbeaten streak alive and strengthen their push up the League Two table.
Writer’s View
Lyle Taylor’s leadership and focus on team cohesion highlight why Colchester United are thriving. The veteran striker’s contributions on and off the pitch have been instrumental, and his emphasis on consistency and collective effort provides a solid foundation for continued success. If Colchester can sustain their high standards, they have every chance of maintaining their impressive run and climbing further up the table.
