Bristol Rovers Midfielder Calls For Consistency

Bristol Rovers midfielder Jamie Lindsay has called on his side to start showing some consistency as they prepare to host Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

The Gas have endured a frustrating season thus far and currently sit 16th in League One. They have won back-to-back games just once all season, at the beginning of October, and have recorded just one victory in their last five league outings.

They did progress to the FA Cup third round last weekend with a penalty shootout win over Barnsley but followed that up with a 3-0 defeat against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night. As a result, Matt Taylor’s team are now just three points above Northampton Town in the final relegation place.

Lindsay Insists Consistency Is The Key

Lindsay has been an almost ever-present in Rovers’ midfield this season, making 19 appearances in all competitions. He knows that performances have not been good enough and believes a number of false dawns have led to their inconsistency. Speaking to official club media, the 29-year-old has issued a rallying call to his teammates:

“There’s been times in the league this season when we’ve done well and won a couple of games. Then, there’s always been that chance after winning a couple where it’s like ‘if we win this, we’re looking good here,’ and we’ve always fallen short of that game so far.

“That’s obviously disappointing. In the Mansfield game, we got three points and had a massive chance on Tuesday to kick on, and in the Blackpool game, we didn’t.

“We feel like at the minute it has been forward and back, there’s been no real proper consistency. So, that’s what we need to bring.”

Writer’s View

Bristol Rovers’ inconsistent nature this season has come a somewhat of a surprise. They looked to have had an excellent summer in terms of their transfer business and were tipped by many as an outside bet for the play-offs. Of course, there is still an awful amount of football to be played and a top six finish isn’t out of the question. However, League One is exceptionally strong and it will be a tall ask to pull themselves into the promotion picture. With Bolton, Birmingham City and Wrexham scheduled for their next three games, it more likely they could find themselves in a relegation scrap come Christmas.
