1st Prediction For Sunderland v Stoke City: Match Result – Sunderland – 3/4

Sunderland are strong at home having yet to taste defeat at the Stadium of Light this season. Their visitors have only won twice on the road so far during this campaign. The Mackems are incredibly tough to break down and have only conceded four times on their home patch this season. Le Bris’ men will be desperate to get back to winning ways against a Stoke side who haven’t won in four.

2nd Prediction For Sunderland v Stoke City: Under 2.5 Goals – 17/20

Five of Sunderland’s last six games have contained fewer than three goals and Stoke City’s recent outings have all been low scoring affairs. Sunderland are clean sheet experts having kept 10 so far this season and Stoke have have only managed to score four times on the road this season.

3rd Prediction For Sunderland v Stoke City: Sunderland To Win To Nil – Yes – 2/1

Sunderland’s ten clean sheets and four goals conceded at home point to a difficult afternoon for Stoke City in front of goal. The Potters are not free scoring on their travels and will find it difficult to break the Sunderland backline.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Sunderland head into this fixture without a win in their last six matches, having drawn five in a row before a defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last Friday. Their form before the run of draws was four wins in six and they had risen to the top of the Championship table, but with no win in the entire month of November they now found themselves in fourth and five points off the lead. The Black Cats are yet to taste defeat on home soil this season and have won five of their eight home league matches conceding just four goals.

Stoke City make the trip north occupying 14th place in the table and without a win in four matches. Stoke have only won four times in the league all season with two of those victories coming on their travels. Stoke have managed just two wins from their previous ten Championship outings but have lost just two of those ten.

In the 19 games between these two sides since 2010, Sunderland have the edge by eight wins to seven with four matches ending as draws. Last season’s meetings saw a win apiece, with both sides coming out on top in their home fixtures. A Mehdi Leris inspired Stoke ran out 2-1 winners in the Potteries thanks to goals from Ryan Mmaee and Luke McNally that sandwiched a Jack Clarke strike for the visitors. The return fixture at the Stadium of Light ended in a 3-1 victory for the the hosts thanks to goals from Mason Burstow, Abdoullah Ba and Pierre Ekwahsealing sealing the three points before a Jenson Seelt own goal pulled one back for Stoke.

In March 2023, Sunderland were hammered 5-1 at home by the Potters who were inspired by William Smallbone. Josh Laurent gave the visitors the lead just before half time before they ran riot in the second half, with a brace each for Tyrese Campbell and Dwight Gayle securing the comprehensive victory. Six years prior, the fixture had been a Premier League encounter and Stoke completed the double over Sunderland as they ran out 2-0 winners at home and 3-1 victors up north.

This is the first of three encounters between these sides in a little over a month as they face off at the Bet365 Stadium in late December before heading back to Sunderland for an FA Cup 3rd round clash in January.
