Sunderland Boss Reveals Frustration

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has revealed he is frustrated with the club’s recent poor form, which has seen them embark on an extended winless run.

The 48-year-old was handed the reins at the Stadium of Light in July following an extensive search for Michael Beale’s permanent successor. He immediately made an impact, with Sunderland starting the season in stunning fashion, winning nine of their opening 12 fixtures.

Sunderland found themselves at the top of the Championship table as a result of their early form, but they have since slipped to fourth after losing their spark in recent weeks. A run of five successive draws game to an end against Sheffield United last week, although the Black Cats found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline.

Regis Le Bris Targets Return To Winning Ways

The Wearsiders host Stoke City this weekend in search of their first victory since October. Recent stats show it will be a low-scoring affair, with Sunderland scoring three times in their last six games whilst Stoke have two goals in their last four.

Le Bris knows that it is imperative that his team start to find that winning formula in order to reward the fans for their recent support. The Frenchman addressed this, telling Chronicle Live:

“They (the supporters) are impressive. They are still behind us, even at the end of the (Sheffield United) game. We have to enjoy our support because they are very important for us.”

“At the minute, we are not winning and I know it’s frustrating for them as well. We are frustrated but for the supporters, it’s important to have this enjoyment after a tough week.

“We want to deserve the support and I’m sure we’ll win again soon.”

Writer’s View

Sunderland’s recent form is a cause for concern, but alarm bells shouldn’t be ringing just yet. Many teams will come away from Bramall Lane with nothing, whilst draws against Millwall and West Bromwich Albion aren’t the worst results in the world. They will fancy their chances of getting back on track against a Stoke team struggling in front of goal. However, this is also a problem for the Black Cats and Le Bris needs to get his strikers firing again before they lose ground in the race for promotion.
