Lincoln City Star Praises Comeback Heroes

Lincoln City star Erik Ring has praised his teammates after they came from behind to secure a stunning 4-3 win over Crawley Town in the FA Cup second round.

The Imps headed to West Sussex with revenge in mind after losing 3-0 at the Broadfield Stadium in October. However, it looked as if lightning would strike twice when the hosts surged into a two goal lead within 13 minutes through goals from Jack Roles and Tola Showunmi.

Lincoln bounced back quickly though, with Paudie O’Connor pulling one back in the 19th minute before Jovon Makama levelled six minutes before the break. Michael Skubala’s team took a stranglehold on the game in the second half and surged ahead with two goals in a minute through Erik Ring and Jack Moylan.

Jeremy Kelly netted in the 82nd minute to set up a tense finish, but the East Midlands-based outfit held firm to secure a place in the third round.

Erik Ring Praises Comeback

Ring scored his second goal for the club in stunning fashion to give Lincoln the lead for the first time in the game. It’s become a familiar sight at the LNER Stadium, with the Imps having found themselves behind in seven of their last eight league games, as well as yesterday’s FA Cup clash.

Speaking to official club media, the 22-year-old was pleased to see his team show determination to turn the game around, although did acknowledge that they do have to keep coming from behind in games:

“It wasn’t a good start, but we’ve shown in previous games that we’re a strong group and we can come back in games, and we did it again, hopefully we won’t have to do that in the future though as we want to take the lead.”

Asked about his goal, Ring said:

“It was a good strike, it went straight in the middle of the goal so it must’ve had some power on it.”

Writer’s View

Lincoln had been in poor form in the build up to this game, going four games without a win in the league. This has seen them slip out of the play-off places, so they really needed to return to winning ways here. This will give Michael Skubala a huge lift ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Rotherham United as the away games keep on coming. If they can get a result in Yorkshire, they will enter Saturday’s clash with Charlton Athletic at Sincil Bank confident they can return to the top six.
