Leeds United are considering a move for free agent Ryan Kent following the winger’s release by Fenerbahce last month, according to Football Insider.
The 27-year-old swapped Scotland for Turkey in 2023 following the expiration of his contract at Rangers. However, his time on the continent proved disastrous, where he made just eight league appearances during his debut season.
The arrival of Jose Mourinho in the summer seemed to seal Kent’s fate. He had failed to make the matchday squad in any of the Turkish giant’s league games and his solitary outing this season game in a Champions League qualifier in July.
Plenty Of Interest Expected
Leeds’ interest is not new. They have been linked with a move for the former Liverpool youngster since the summer, where Hull City were also named as potential suitors. He did come close to joining Lazio on Transfer Deadline Day but the deal fell through.
News emerged last week that League One’s Leyton Orient had made a speculative enquiry to Kent’s representatives, whilst Saudi Arabia could also be an option. Championship promotion contenders Burnley are another who have express interest in the past and could revisit.
Leeds To Consider Move On One Condition
According to Football Insider, Kent is a player who Daniel Farke would be keen to bring to Elland Road. However, this would only materialise if Leeds suffer any injuries to key players.
The Whites have had their fair share of injury complaints this season. They currently have Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Max Wober and Largie Ramazani on the sidelines, the latter of which plays in the same position of Kent. Farke does have options in this position though. Despite losing Crysencio Summerville in the summer, he can still call upon the likes of Manor Solomon, Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James.
Writer’s View
Although Kent has had his contract cancelled, he is unable to play for another club until January. However, he can train with any potential suitor, which could see him become hot property in the coming weeks. The winger will be an attractive prospect due to the lack of transfer fee involved and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Leeds have been linked for some time now, but he’s not necessarily a player they need.
