Our Three Predictions For Swindon Town vs Gillingham

  • Prediction 1 – Result to end in a draw – 85/40
  • Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 goals scored – 13/20
  • Prediction 3 – Both sides to score – 3/4

First Prediction For Swindon Town vs Gillingham – Result to end in a draw – 85/40

Both sides have been in some tough form lately, with Swindon losing their last two games 2-1 and Gillingham have lost their last five on the bounce. It is difficult to predict either of these sides due to their form and there is not much separating both clubs going into the game. Swindon’s positive performance despite losing to Salford City on Tuesday may be the decisive factor and should Harry Smith match that performance, The Robins may nick this contest.

Second Prediction For Swindon Town vs Gillingham – Under 2.5 goals scored – 13/20

Gillingham have long been a side that has thrived despite not being as freely scoring as their competitors. Over the past two previous seasons, only three sides have been outscored by the Kent outfit and have relied on their defensive resilience to secure results. Swindon have only scored more than once in just two of their 13 league games this season. It feels like this will be a low-scoring affair and as a result an extremely tight game in Wiltshire.

Third Prediction For Swindon Town vs Gillingham – Both sides to score – 3/4

As stated, both sides are not very prolific scorers and it is likely to be going down to the wire at The County Ground. Town have had many different scorers in their season, with centre-back Will Wright leading the charts for Mark Kennedy’s side. Gills are missing the presence of both Oli Hawkins and summer signing Bradley Dack, but it has been winger Jayden Clarke who has carried the attacking output for his club. Both club’s defensive records hint that goals are likely to go in at both ends.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Despite their early season form that saw the club competing for the play-off places, Gillingham have had a surprising fall off and have the worst form in League Two, having lost their last five on the bounce. Tuesday night saw them succumb to a 2-0 defeat to Newport County, with first-half goals from Kyle Hudlin and Matthew Baker giving The Exiles three points largely against the run of play. Gills had 25 attempts at goal across the ninety minutes at Priestfield. but only got five of those on target.

Swindon have also lost in their last two but can turn to positive results against Cheltenham Town in the league and a demolition of League One’s Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy across their last five. Their 11 points have them in 22nd place in the fourth tier, and due to Carlisle United‘s inferior goal difference, it means that The Robins are unlikely to drop in the relegation spots unless there is a massive goal swing.

Gillingham remains unbeaten in this contest in the last six games, with three wins and draws a piece. The total record in the fixture since 2011 saw seven Gills wins, seven draws and just two Swindon Town wins. Last season’s games ended with Connor Mahoney scoring the winner at The County Ground, whilst the match at Priestfield ended up in a 2-2 draw.
